Wednesday night’s episode of MasterChef Australia saw the contestants head to Queen Victoria Markets for a Service Challenge, but there was one question viewers were begging: what happened to Juan De La Cruz’s face?
The home cook was part of the pink team, and a close-up of his face showed some pink lesions, but they were never explained during the episode.
Fortunately for the curious viewers out there, Juan told us how it’s healing up and took to Instagram to explain exactly what happened.
While the injuries themselves certainly look painful, Juan told Chattr.com.au that he’s healing up well.
“It’s much better already!” He said. “Lots of cream and patience”.
What happened to Juan’s face?
After Tuesday night’s episode, Juan posted an explanation for his injuries on Instagram, indicating that they actually happened during a cooking incident on MasterChef.
He revealed that it wasn’t just his face that was injured – but his hand too.
“Mum! I’m fine but I have news to share,” he began. “An eventful day practising out of the MasterChef kitchen landed me in some hot oil! Hands and face ouch ð¤.”
Juan took the time to thank his castmate Johnathan and the MasterChef production team for getting him to hospital after the accident.
“Biggest thanks to my roomie Jono & the MasterChef team for their quick action to ensure I got the best medical attention,” he wrote.
“Happy to share that, thanks to the wonderful staff at the Alfred Hospital, I’ll be back in the Kitchen tonight!!”
Juan later explained in another post that he was sitting out watching the Elimination Challenge in order to help heal his burns.
“On a lower note my burns have taken a toll on me today and I’m exhausted but I was able to put together a decent plate that saved me from elimination tomorrow,” he wrote.
“My hand and face are achy so I’m gonna stay in bed tomorrow and wish the best for my friends in the elimination round!”
Who won the Service Challenge?
Unfortunately for Juan, his pink team – which also consisted of Lachlan, Gill, Alex and Josh Clarke – weren’t the winners of the day.
The top two teams were the Blue team – made up of Nat, Lily, Darrsh, Khristian and Harry – and the Red team – made up of Sumeet, Stephen, Josh, Mimi and Sue. But, it was the red team who took out the win.
Watch MasterChef Australia from Sunday – Thursday on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
