The Opening Round of the AFL 2025 Season was scheduled to kick off on March 6 at The Gabba in Queensland, but Tropical Cyclone Alfred has put a dent in the schedule.
Two games have been postponed due to the severe weather, but the rest of the Opening Round will run as scheduled.
Find out what games have been postponed due to Cyclone Alfred, when they’ve been rescheduled and when all of the AFL Opening Round games will be aired on TV.
Which AFL Games have been postponed because of Cyclone Alfred, and when will they play?
Two games have been postponed because of the Cyclone; the season-opening clash between Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats and Saturday night’s game between Essendon Bombers and Gold Coast Suns.
The Brisbane and Geelong match has been rescheduled for March 29 at 6:35pm local time.
However, the Essendon and Gold Coast game was harder to reschedule because both teams have different bye weeks. For that reason, the league moved the game until the end of the season, when Essendon and Gold Coast are both scheduled to play two games in the final round.
When are all of the AFL Opening Round games on TV?
Only two of the four Opening Round games will be played this weekend. Those games were scheduled to take place at stadiums outside of Queensland, where Cyclone Alfred is expected to make landfall.
