Australia’s first-ever lead for The Golden Bachelor has been revealed, and it’s apparently silver-fox Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden.
Daily Mail Australia revealed that the father of three will be fronting the show and working his way through potential suitors with the goal of finding a life partner.
Here’s everything we know about Australia’s Golden Bachelor Barry.
Has Australia’s Golden Bachelor Barry Myrden been married?
Yes, Barry has been married, and his backstory is heartbreaking. Barry was married to Audrey Myrden, who was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive malignant brain tumour in 2009.
She unfortunately passed away in 2011, and Barry gave a final update about his condition in a Facebook group dedicated to her recovery in November of that year.
“She is not very good and wasn’t expected to last this past weekend. It could be a matter of days, even hours. It is clear that the tumour has come back, and they have exhausted all treatment options. Now it is just a case of keeping her comfortable.”
Barry thanked the group for their “thoughts and prayers”.

Does Barry have kids?
He does. Barry has three sons with his late wife: Charlie, Jack, and Declan, whose ages range between 17 and 21.
A source told Daily Mail Australia that his sons aren’t fans of the women Barry’s been dating recently.
“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” the friend said.
“We were always saying that he needs to put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”

What does Barry do for work?
Barry’s LinkedIn profile has him listed as an Infrastructure Engineer at Data Centre Management for Woolworths Group.
Previous to that he worked as a Vessel Traffic Services Officers for Port Authority of NSW, and his Facebook page shows that he’s a keen sailor.
Where is Golden Bachelor’s Barry Myrden from?
According to NetworkCanada, Barry is Canadian and moved to Australia with his late wife in 1998. He’s based in Manly on the Northern Beaches.
The Golden Bachelor Australia will air on Channel 9 in 2025.
