It seems like everybody suddenly has Severance fever, with the Apple TV+ show steadily gaining record amounts of views. The sci-fi drama starring Adam Scott recently surpassed Ted Lasso to become the streamer’s most-watched show of all time.

Severance has proven to be an extraordinary success and a cultural phenomenon,” Apple TV+’s head of programming Matt Cherniss said. “The series has become an obsession for audiences all over the world and we can’t wait for people to continue to experience all the masterful twists and turns as the rest of the season unfolds.”

If you haven’t heard of Severance, it’s an interesting commentary on capitalism and work-life balance. Workers at Lumon on the severed floor undergo an operation to “sever” their brains. The outies have no recollection of the eight hours they spend at work, and the innies only know life in the office.

The mind-blowing finale of Severance Season 1 aired in April 2022, and it took three painful years before Season 2 premiered in January 2025. Will it take another three years for Season 3 to premiere? Let’s hope not!

Has Apple TV+ renewed Severance for Season 3?

Apple TV+ hasn’t officially announced Severance Season 3, but it seems like it’s inevitable. Executive producer Ben Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter that the writers room is “underway in LA” and believes it will have a large budget.

He also told Collider that Apple has been “really supportive” of the creative team, and aren’t pressuring the creators to drag the story out.

“It should go as long as the story goes, and that’s something we have an idea of and we’re working towards as we’re starting up our Season 3 work,” he said.

When will Severance Season 3 be released?

Severance fans can rejoice because creator Dan Erickson doesn’t want there to be another three-year wait for more episodes.

“I certainly would like it to [take less time], yeah. And the conversations we have had about it, that’s been in the conversation,” he told Gizmodo. “Season 2 actually took about the same amount of time as Season 1. The difference, of course, is Season 1 nobody knew what the show was and so they weren’t waiting for it.

“But at the same time, you’re always looking to sort of fine-tune the process and take what works and leave what doesn’t work and streamline things. So, my hope is that if there is a Season 3, it’s going to be sooner.”

What will the plot of Severance Season 3 be?

There are certainly many questions to be answered, and it’s likely Season 2 will end on a big cliffhanger. While we’re going to find out what the goats mean in the remaining Season 2 episodes, there’s bound to be broader questions. Perhaps we’ll find out what Lumon Industries does, if Burt Goodman (Christopher Walken) is secretly evil, and more about Mark Scout’s (Adam) wife Gemma (Dichen Lachmann).

Luckily, the show’s creator Dan already knows the direction the story is going, and he told Gizmodo the final scene of the entire show is already mapped out.

“I have a pretty solid idea of the endpoint of the show. I have kind of a final scene that has always been in my head and answers to some of the big questions,” he teased.

Who will be in the cast of Severance Season 3?

Since the show hasn’t officially been renewed, no cast list has been announced. You can assume that the main cast will return, including including Adam, Christopher, Dichen as well as Tramell TrillmanZach CherryBritt LowerJohn TurturroPatricia ArquetteJen Tullock Michael Chernus and Sarah Bock.
