Neighbours has officially been cancelled for the second time, and fans are questioning why it was ever reinstated in the first place.
ICYMI, Neighbours was axed from Channel 10 back in March 2022, after Britain’s Channel 5 pulled funding. However, Amazon stepped in and revived the show via its now-defunct Freevee streaming service.
But, the axe has been dropped on Neighbours once again, with the show officially confirming that it will cease production in the summer of 2025, with the final episodes airing in late 2025.
“We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025. New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love,” the statement posted to Neighbours official Facebook page read.
However, Neighbours Executive Producer Jason Herbison hinted that the show could eventually return… again.
“As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for Neighbours – bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally,” he began.
“We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.”
Fans question why Neighbours was revived in 2022
Fans have taken to the comments section with mixed reactions; while some have been grieving the end of the iconic soap, others said that the show should have wrapped back in 2022 after Channel 5 pulled its funding.
“Should have left it to finish on the high last time, unfortunately,” one person wrote.

Another commented: “Loved Neighbours but they really should have left it with the perfect original ending instead of trying to bring it back! I’ve watched all the new episodes but it just didn’t have the same feel about it! Good try though, and wish them all the best!”
“Unfortunately, they shouldn’t have bought it back; it has definitely run its course, and I’ve watched it for over 25 years. All good things come to an end, and it’s the right time,” a third wrote.
One user zeroed in on Jason’s aforementioned comment about the Neighbours residents having more stories to tell.
“If the creators think there are more to show in the future, then surely there’s work in the background regarding a future contract to air the show. Never give up,” they wrote.
Fingers crossed… Or not?
