The Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025 storyline involving Paul Antoine admitting he punched a door during an argument with on-screen bride Carina Mirabile has been one of the most controversial segments in the reality TV show’s history. Now, Carina has shed light on her side of the story.

Speaking with MAFS Funny on their podcast, Carina reflected on how she felt at the time of the incident, the subsequent producer support, and how it has been to encounter the response from viewers now that the show is airing.

If you missed the last few episodes, Paul and Carina were one of the strongest couples in the MAFS experiment until a night out went awry. Carina explained that during a taxi ride back to their apartment, she admitted she had slept with a rapper playing on the car radio (reportedly Quavo). Paul didn’t appreciate this reveal, and his upset turned into an argument between the couple. Paul then explained that he wanted space, but Carina wanted to find a solution to their argument before they went to sleep. During this part of the argument, Paul punched their bedroom door.

All the MAFS couples condemned Paul’s behaviour during the subsequent Dinner Party, when Paul revealed his behaviour and remorse over his actions. The experts were also appalled by his actions and chastised him at the Commitment Ceremony. Carina accepted Paul’s apology on the show, and the couple remained in the experiment.

What has Carina said about Paul’s violent outburst on MAFS?

During the interview with MAFS Funny, Carina said that production’s duty of care was, in her opinion, sufficient.

“I was okay,” she said, adding that production checked in on her after the incident.

“They were very cautious; they sat us down and said, ‘Are you both Ok? Are you both safe?’. They said to Paul, ‘We can throw you out right now.'”

Carina went on to say that production then set expectations on Paul. “They gave us both the help that we were requiring. [Paul] was banned from alcohol for the rest of the series. They gave him therapy sessions every Saturday morning. There were a lot of things that had to come into play for it to be a safe environment.”

Carina also shared her opinion on Paul’s character: “He is a very good human. I understand everyone’s point of view; everyone will always have their own view, and everyone will always have their own opinion. But at the end of the day, I felt safe. It was up to me eventually because we are in this together. I haven’t seen any indication for me to be like, “Whoa, let’s run away.” There was none of that.”

She also revealed that she’s still in contact with Paul. “Absolutely, we are in contact… Paul and I check in on each other every single day and make sure we’re okay.”

In terms of how she views what happened on the show, Carina’s opinion was that relationships go through tough periods. “This is literally life… We go through hurdles, you go through arguments or whatever life brings, financial difficulty, family difficulty, personal difficulty, mental health, all of that kind of thing… You go through that in relationships, so how are you going to move forward as a relationship and not just sweep it under the rug or throw the towel in.”

“You learn each other’s boundaries, and that’s exactly what Paul and I were doing; we were learning each other’s boundaries.”

While Paul and Carina remain on MAFS, viewers have been adamant that Paul should have been removed from the series after the violent outburst. Chattr spoke to a Couples Therapist Michelle Janssen, who agreed.

“It was an opportunity for MAFS to go, ‘We won’t tolerate this.’ We need to have a zero tolerance policy for violence.”

There has also been a police investigation launched into the incident.

Married At First Sight 2025 airs Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
