There’s just as much drama happening off-screen these days on Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025 and while we’re watching some relationships crumble on-screen, it appears like new relationships are already forming.
The latest two MAFS participants to be subjected to the dating rumour mill are Awhina Rutene and Billy Belcher, with Woman’s Day publishing photos of the pair looking cosy a ‘date’.
While MAFS fans are rejoicing at the thought of the two finding love outside of their tumultuous relationships with Adrian Araouzou and Sierah Swepstone, we decided to go directly to the source and ask Awhina what’s really happening.
MAFS’ Awhina addresses being spotted on ‘date’ with Billy
In an interview with Chattr, Awhina apologised to Australia because… well, she and Billy are just great mates.
“Billy and I are just really great friends. It was my birthday and with everything that was airing on MAFS, it was very raw to him. So we were in communication, and it was a friendly catch-up, getting ice cream” she shared.
“And he got me flowers for my birthday. I really value his friendship, and I think his family are really beautiful. Sorry, Australia, [it’s] friendship. I know everyone’s shipping us right now, but I’m married,” Awhina laughed.
After the photos were leaked of Billy and Awhina enjoying their catch-up, Awhina’s current MAFS husband Adrian took to TikTok to allege that Awhina’s twin sister Cleo previously had something going on with Billy, something Awhina laughed off.
“My twin sister and Billy had met when she had come over to see me,” Awhina explained. “They kept in touch because Cleo was worried about me, and she wanted to make sure I was still OK. When he came back from that experience, the communication continued, but it was regarding my well-being and she wanted inside knowledge because Billy was very much in communication with his BFF, Dave.”
Well, in Awhina’s words, sorry Australia! But perhaps this is good news if Billy is still on the market?
