Aussies around the country were screaming at the telly during Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025 last night after Jacqui Burfoot chose to write stay during the Commitment Ceremony. Why on earth would she want to stick around with Ryan Donnelly when they clearly have no future together?
ICYMI, Ryan clearly told Jacqui at the Dinner Party that he was done with the relationship, which led to tears and one iconic quote from the bride: “I don’t lose people, people lose me”.
However, since Jacqui chose to write stay on the couch, rules state that the couple has to stick around for another week.
She tells Chattr the reason she didn’t leave the experiment was purely to try and “save Ryan’s ego”, which is an interesting reason.
“I was trying to leave safely as friends to save Ryan’s ego with our differences aside, putting our relationship in the best place possible, resolve differences and leave with understanding and acceptance of why we would never be a good match,” she says.
“That just wasn’t an option for the producers — they wouldn’t let me leave like that — they wanted a fight.”
She claims that she felt “scared of Ryan” and was unable to “voice her true feelings”.
The bride tells Chattr that she felt “gaslit” on the couch, and had already told Ryan and the cameras she “didn’t see a future with him”.

Jacqui claims she tried to leave MAFS after the Commitment Ceremony
On Instagram, Jacqui dropped another bombshell: she was stopped by producers when she tried to leave. The easiest thing would have been for her to write leave during the actual Commitment Ceremony, but we all know she loves to go rogue.
“I packed my bags that night and tried to leave but was stopped by production,” she claimed.
“They refused to let me leave and said I had to stay as per the rules of the experiment. They told me Ryan was feeling crushed and it was my chance to make him feel included and accepted as a human. So [I] guess that was my final job. I didn’t see any future with him.”

Jacqui added that she “wanted to leave amicably” but changed her mind.
Does this mean we’re going to see some explosive moments? Love her or hate her, you can’t deny Jacqui is making for some damn good TV.
