The drama is continuing off-screen when it comes to Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025, despite the fact the show is wrapping up on our TV screens soon.

According to The Examiner and The Canberra Times, Jacqui Burfoot has lodged a complaint against Ryan Donnelly and has been granted an interim restraining order against her on-screen husband. Now, it’s been reported that Ryan has applied for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Jacqui.

Ryan’s alleged Apprehended Violence Order against Jacqui

Shortly after Jacqui’s restraining order was widely reported, Daily Mail Australia published an article claiming that Ryan had applied for an AVO against Jacqui.

The publication reported that the AVO was applied for at Campbelltown Courthouse and is due for mention on April 23.

Jacqui’s interim restraining order against Ryan

Jacqui is said to have complained about Ryan’s interview with The Daily Mail last weekend, saying Ryan’s alleged conduct had ‘escalated’.

While the court heard that both parties had posted about each other on social media, Launceston magistrate Sharon Cure deemed that Jacqui has been harmed by Ryan’s social media posts, with Jacqui alleging that Ryan’s comments have affected her ability to work as a lawyer.

The Canberra Times reported that Magistrate Cure granted the interim order which stipulated that Ryan can’t “directly or indirectly threaten, harass, abuse, or publish on social media denigrating material”, with Jacqui also warned against publishing any material on her end.

Magistrate Cure also warned that the order could stop the show going ahead. “Him being ordered not to say or do anything under this order could stop a television show going ahead,” she said. “If he were served with this [application as written], it would shut the show down.”

“I’m happy for the show to go ahead,” Jacqui replied.

Jacqui reportedly also told the court that if she failed in the restraint order application, she would launch defamation proceedings, and asked if the restraint order application could be served via social media to which Magistrate Cure saying, “No, using social media to serve restraint orders is completely inappropriate.”

Married At First Sight 2025 airs Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
