2025 clint and jacqui

The Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025 reunion is almost here, and we’re finally going to see Jacqui Burfoot and Clint Rice make their debut as the newest couple. There’s been a LOT of chatter about their relationship, with some Aussie radio host Jules Lund on Fox FM insinuating that Clint is Jacqui’s “puppet”.

Clint tells Chattr this couldn’t be further from the truth, saying people are judging him from what they see on TV — a highly edited show purely for our entertainment.

“I was like, mate, seriously, you’re judging me off what you’ve seen on TV. I thought this guy [would] be smarter than that,” Clint says.

“He’s on air saying, ‘Oh this guy Clint, can’t make decisions’. I think he said, ‘Clint wouldn’t have made a decision in his life’. It’s like mate, [I] played professional golf for 10 years around the world, built a company and sold it, built a designer home.”

He adds that it’s behaviour you’d expect from “trolls”, not from those who work in the media, and it’s possibly linked to the tall poppy syndrome we have here in Australia.

“Why are you out trying to shoot me down when you’ve seen me for 10 seconds on a TV show that they’ve put up what they wanted, and it’s like, when you’re on this TV show, what decisions have you got to make?” Clint says.

“Have a think about the decisions I have to make in that part of my life compared to my previous 43 years.”

Clint reveals Jacqui is the breadwinner in their relationship

There’s a sentiment online that Jacqui is only with Clint for his money, with some MAFS viewers calling her a “gold digger”. This is hard for the couple, with Jacqui apparently being quite upset by this rumour.

“It’s horrible for Jacqui. That does upset her, because [she’s] making more than me right now,” Clint declares.

“I don’t need to go into details about the wealth of herself and her family, but she is not, she’s not poor, and she’s not looking for someone with money.”

The couple split bills equally, and Clint describes Jacqui as “genuine” while adding they have a “very normal relationship”.

“People think that she’s come to Tassie and I’ve just paid for everything. It’s like no, we actually share things quite equally actually,” he explains.

“She’s actually so down to earth and caring, and that’s what I get in our relationship… which a lot of Australia haven’t seen because of the relationship she was in on the show.”

Clint also let slip that he’s met Jacqui’s whole family in New Zealand, and calls them “down to earth”. It sounds like they’re getting quite serious!

Could Clint and Jacqui be the next MAFS success story? Only time will tell!

Married At First Sight 2025 airs Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
