So far, it feels like this Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2025 season has been the most controversial yet, at least when it comes to off-air gossip. Several stars (and anonymous insiders) have spoken out about the reality show’s supposedly bad editing, giving us tea that’s usually reserved for post-show podcast episodes and Instagram “AMAs”.
Fans of Married At First Sight aren’t delusional – everyone knows the show is edited for maximum drama. But just where are those edits placed, and how much of what we see is really what went down? That’s the question that’s being fuelled by the show’s current stars, several of whom have already complained about sneaky producer moves to turn them into villains.
Jacqui says her chaotic energy isn’t the entire story
Jacqui Burfoot has been one of the most fascinating MAFS 2025 brides in the show’s history, from her deep hatred of TV in the bedroom to wedding vows that read more like a job application resume.
But, according to Jacqui, all may not be as it seems on our screens. She recently posted an Instagram Story complaining about MAFS’ bad editing, saying her “character makes no sense” on the show because of a “highly fictional storyline”.

“I can’t sit back and support misleading and deceptive stories,” she added before listing several traits she feels weren’t properly exhibited on MAFS.
Jacqui has also hinted at sneaky editing in a separate Instagram post about Jake Luik‘s infamous comment regarding her appearance.

While she does acknowledge that Jake told his wife Ashleigh Ackerman Jacqui had “crazy eyes” during the Photo Ranking task, she added that “it was an inside joke someone else was making” and that Jake seemed “full of remorse” during the Commitment Ceremony, something that was not aired.
Jake insists “crazy eyes” comment didn’t come from him first
Jake began his time on MAFS 2025 as a fan favourite, but this quickly changed after his damning comments made during the Photo Ranking task. From racist comments about Awhina Rutene to saying Jacqui Burfoot had “crazy eyes”, his behaviour led to the dissolution of his marriage to Ashleigh and attracted the ire of MAFS fans.
Since leaving the show, Jake has given a tell-all interview to The Daily Mail, insisting that what was aired was not the full story, and was instead just bad editing.

“If you look at just what’s on TV, it makes it look great,” he said. “But a lot of things I said, a lot of things I brought up, just got completely cut from the footage.”
Some cut footage, he alleges, involved Ashleigh disappearing for entire weekends, which made it difficult for them to build a relationship. He also suffered from a serious ear infection during filming, which wasn’t shown during the series.
Most controversial, however, are his claims that it was Ashleigh who called Jacqui “crazy eyes” first. According to Jake, she forgot her fellow bride’s name during a conversation and referred to her as “crazy eyes” in passing.
“I was made to look like I was the only one saying things, but that wasn’t the case.”
Morena claims Tony wanted his IRL wife on MAFS
In a really chaotic move, MAFS bride Morena Farina messaged ex-MAFS star Harrison Boon on Instagram, with Harrison then sharing the messages with Morena’s permission.
In the texts, Morena claims that her relationship with Tony Mojanovski was over before it began, with Tony revealing on their honeymoon that he is still married. While this wasn’t a total dealbreaker for Morena, his alleged revelation during the first Commitment Ceremony was.

“…He told everyone at the Commitment Ceremony, which is this week, that he loves his wife,” she says in the messages, adding that he told producers he wanted them to bring his wife onto the show.
“He wants his wife, and he really thought he could come on the show and get his wife in the show. It would make good TV. What the hell?”

Morena said this was a central issue in their relationship, but while she wanted to discuss it on the show, producers told her to “stop talking” about it and to “let it go”, as they were not going to make it a storyline.
“And then the production thinks, ‘Well, I’m gonna give it to her because she’s not doing what we want her to do’. I ruined their filming. This is why there was no footage on our honeymoon,” she continued.
Eliot says his show personality doesn’t reflect real-life
Eliot Donovan‘s short-lived relationship with Lauren Hall was central to the MAFS 2025 drama in early episodes after Eliot complained about Lauren’s age and implied that she spent too much money on designer handbags.

He eventually left the show (although – spoiler alert – will be returning as an intruder soon), and gave a revealing interview to The Daily Mail, blasting MAFS‘ bad editing.
“It’s so frustrating,” he says in the interview. “It’s so funny with the way that they can like cherry-pick parts of my personality and then not show other parts.”
The groom went on to say that context is lost amongst MAFS‘ bad editing. “It can make it completely different if you’re doing it in a way that sounds harsh and aggressive, obviously it’s going to come out a lot worse. If you’re saying it in defence of something or in a way where you are saying, look, I don’t think it’s fair or this or that, and you add context to it, then I think it communicates completely differently.”
We’ll see if Eliot’s edit turns around when he returns with a new bride.
Tim felt “stitched up” with his story arc
Easily the top villain (so far) of MAFS 2025, Tim Gromie set fans ablaze with his comments and treatment of his wife, Katie Johnston. From criticising producers for not placing him with a younger wife, to abandoning Katie until the first Commitment Ceremony, Tim’s behaviour on screen led to nationwide outrage.

Since MAFS began airing, Tim has deleted social media, and an insider revealed to The Daily Mail that he wants “nothing to do with the show”.
“He feels he was stitched up from the start and is now just trying to get through it with minimal damage to his career and reputation,” the insider spilled.
Tim has allegedly refused all interviews relating to MAFS, even opting out of a promotional shoot for the series.
With so many stars taking to alternative Instagram accounts to spill tea on MAFS this year, we’re sure there will be more rogue statements about bad editing in the weeks to come.
Married At First Sight 2025 airs Sundays at 7pm and Monday – Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
