Kate and Matt Dalton have had the nation in stitches for the last eight years of Gogglebox Australia, and they’re about to do it again for Season 20.
However, having the reputation of being one of the funniest families on Australian TV comes with the pressure to turn on the cheer, even on an off day.
During an interview with Chattr, Kate reflected on a particular instance when she ended up in the hospital after filming an episode when she wasn’t feeling well.
“It is hard sometimes,” Kate reflected to Chattr. “I went through a stage of vertigo once when we were filming, and I’d had the vertigo in the morning, and I knew I was unwell.”
“We started watching Dr Pimple Popper, and I ended up having vertigo after that, and later, after the crew left, I ended up in the hospital.”
Kate added that she, Matt, and their daughters Holly and Millie Dalton all live everyday lives outside of filming Gogglebox Australia, and said that it’s sometimes hard to separate the show from reality.
“If it’s really hot or intense or something, and you’re not feeling well, it can be exacerbated when you’re on the couch,” she explained.
“Any feeling that you have before you come to the couch can be magnified. If you’re feeling upset, that can be magnified, or if you’re feeling exuberantly happy, that will come out as well through your filming.”

Kate and Matt Dalton would love a Gogglebox Australia Uncut spinoff
Gogglebox Australia Season 20 is dropping on February 20, and while Kate and Matt told Chattr they’re looking forward to seeing what parts of their TV commentary made the cut, they’ve got his own idea for a spin-off.
“I think there’s room for maybe a Gogglebox Bloopers or a Gogglebox Uncut,” Kate suggested.
Matt added that Gogglebox Bloopers “would be the greatest TV show”.
“95% of what we say doesn’t make it on the TV,” he explained, adding that the cast watches full episodes of shows, and only parts of their commentary make it to the final edited version.
“The guys that edit it are very smart, and they grab a line and go with it, but there’s so much stuff that doesn’t get on.
“Half the time, I can’t remember what we watched the night before because you join the show, and they’re not all memorable. You just say what you think at the time. It’s about being in the present.”
Whether it’s Gogglebox Bloopers or Gogglebox Uncut, we’ll take it — the more Gogglebox Australia, the better, we say.
Gogglebox Australia season 20 premieres on February 20 at 7:30pm on Channel 10 and 10Play.
