The Australian Idol 2025 Grand Finale has just finished and Marshall Hamburger has taken home the crown in a heated battle. There were over 1.2 million votes from around Australia, so it was a heated contest!

After thousands of hopefuls auditioned for judges Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark, and Marcia Hines during the auditions, the Top 30 was selected. 

Tonight, the top three went head-to-head to gain Australia’s votes and the massive prize. Gisella Colletti, Marshall and Iilysh Retallick were all vying for the crown, but only one could walk away with $100,000 in prize money and a recording contract with Hive Sound Studios.

The hosts revealed Gisella received the least amount of votes and she was eliminated first.

“I haven’t heard a voice like yours in such a long time,” Ricki-Lee Coulter told Gisella, before the judges showered her with praise. In a surprise twist, Ricki-Lee told Gisella that Tina Arena has invited Gisella to join her during her performance in Perth.

What else happened during the Australian Idol grand finale?

The rest of the Australian Idol top 12 joined Gisella, Marshall and Iilysh for a performance of Natasha Bedingfield‘s Unwritten to kick the show off with a bang.

“You couldn’t ask for a better top three,” Kyle declared.

Fans were blessed with three incredible performances from the finalists, as well as returning Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, who sang his new single.

Kyle was also delivered a Cold Can and Iilysh spicy sausage in honour of the contestant, and he gave it his seal of approval.

What did Marshall Hamburger sing in the Australian Idol finale?

Marshall sang Shake A Tailfeather by The Blues Brothers, and the crowd were all doing the mashed potato with him.

Amy called Marshall a “genius”, while Marcia said he really stayed true to himself.

“You bring joy and it is like Amy says, you’re just a very clever performer,” Marcia said. “We want to be entertained, that’s what you do my friend, well done.”

Kyle couldn’t believe Marshall was such a “seasoned, genius muso” at his young age.

For his second song, he performed Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police.

The judges praised Marshall, with Amy saying he has “morphed into a superstar”.

The singer also performed a relaxed duet of You Make Me Feel Like Dancing with Leo Sayer on Sunday.

“Thank you so much to Leo Sayer for letting me share the stage with you. You’re an icon and a legend,” Marshall wrote after the performance.

Fans went wild for it, with one saying: “BurgerBoi for the win, you are fantastic.”

“Mashall good luck tonight, all our votes for you as always and we hope you win,” another added.

“The world needs so much more Hamburger music,” a third remarked.

What did Iilysh Retallick sing in the Australian Idol finale?

Iilysh sang good 4 u by rock queen Olivia Rodrigo, and she looked incredible in a punk-inspired tartan dress. She served up plenty of attitude as the camera spun around her.

“You’ve just become this rock chick, and I’m so proud of you, I wish you all the luck,” Marcia said.

Amy said she was “such a fan”, and told her to “get a band and get on the damn road” whether she wins or not.

Kyle said he could play Iilysh on the radio tomorrow, and promised the singer if she didn’t win, he would “buy the band” so she can go on tour.

For her second song, she gave the crowd a rendition of her audition song You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette.

The judges gave her a standing ovation and Kyle told her she “did it again”.

Iilysh and Wolfmother also joined forces on Sunday with a powerful version of Joker And The Thief which blew fans away.

“I was there in the audience and I have to say all three were incredible but this hands down was the best performance!” a fan wrote.

“Iilysh def stole the show last night. Two amazing performances, good luck,” another added.

“This is the best, THE BEST duo I’ve ever seen on any of these platforms. This girl is just… I don’t know, just amazing,” a third said.

What did Gisella Colletti sing in the Australian Idol finale?

Gisella sang What A Feeling as a power ballad, wearing a glamorous purple ballgown and looking like a true pop star.

“You’re incredible and I must say my husband who is a massive fan of the show, said [he] can’t believe Gisella is only 17,” Amy said. “You are incredible, well done.”

Gisella thanked the judges and said she was “happy to be there” to “share her gift”.

“This is my absolute dream and whatever happens, happens. If I win Australian Idol, great,” she said.

The singer also performed a duet of Heaven Help My Heart on Sunday with Tina Arena. She belted the song out with ease, and fans were obsessed.

“Perfect blend of voices! Nobody trying to outdo the other. This is true stardom,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“Just amazing. What a perfect duo,” another added.

“One of the most amazing and wholesome duets I have ever seen,” a third commented.
