Emma Jones hit the ground running on Australian Idol 2025, with her soulful audition of the Bee Gees’ To Love Somebody which earned her a Golden Ticket straight to the Top 30.

Now, the Canberra native has powered through to the Top 10, wowing audiences with covers of tunes like I’ll Stand By You by The Pretenders and Lose Control by Teddy Swims.

But Emma isn’t just your everyday Idol hopeful, she’s got music in her DNA.

So, what else do we know about the 23-year-old singer and guitarist? Here’s everything you need to know about Australian Idol‘s Emma.

Who is Emma Jones’ famous grandma?

“It’s in my family, in the generations. My nan was a professional singer,” Emma revealed during the Australian Idol auditions.

“She was a musician from the 60s to the 90s. She actually passed away when I was two, but that legacy is something that’s really special to me. I’ve listened to her music, and I can hear myself in that, which is amazing. It motivates me to carry that on.”

Emma’s grandmother was Lorraine Bird, a seasoned performer with a career spanning four decades.

The confirmation came from Emma’s mum, Natalie Jones herself, who said as much in a comment on none the Bee Gees Fan Club Australia.

Lorraine was even nominated twice for Best Country Female at the Gold Coast Music Awards in 1994 for her songs Crazy and Working Man. And, in her time, she performed alongside some of the biggest names in music.

“My nan played alongside some really cool people. Willie Nelson, Chubby Checker, Col Joye,” Emma shared.

“I’m here to continue a legacy,” she added.

Emma is No Stranger to the Stage

Before Idol, Emma was already carving out a path in the music scene. The singer-songwriter has performed at festivals like Floriade and the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

A Multi-Talented Musician

While country music may be main love, Emma can do more than strum a guitar. She’s got some skills on the piano, too.
