Aaliyah Duchesne had us hooked from the moment she walked into the Australian Idol 2025 auditions. And, it wasn’t just us. The judges were instantly charmed, too.

“I am here to perform for you guys. Not sing. I am here to perform for you guys,” she told them in Episode 3.

For her audition, she delivered a soulful cover of Angel of Mine by Monica, dedicating it to her mum, her “Angel.” I’m not crying, you’re crying!

So, what else do we know about the Western Sydney songbird? Find out about Aaliyah from Australian Idol 2025.

She’s already put out some fire tracks

Aaliyah isn’t just stepping into the music scene. She’s been grinding for a while now.

The 27-year-old already has four original singles on Spotify: Hands On, Daddy Issues, Taste, and Warning, the latter of which has racked up over 120,000 plays!

What’s Aaliyah’s day job?

Outside of music, Aaliyah works in a call centre, which is something she found out she has in common with Australian Idol judge Amy Shark.

“Getting abused by customers,” she joked about the not-so-glamorous gig.

But while customer service pays the bills, music is where her heart is.

“I was born into a very musical family,” she shared during auditions.

“I didn’t really have a choice but to either sing, dance, or play instruments. So, I sing!”

She’s been through a lot to get here

Aaliyah’s journey hasn’t been without hardship. She lost her father when she was around eight years old, and it’s inferred that he passed away from suicide.

“My father did lose his battle to mental illness,” she said in her Australian Idol intro card.

“That period after my Dad’s passing was a very strange period. If it wasn’t for my Mum, I wouldn’t be the amazing person I am today.”

She and her mother, Laverne, have been through it all together, and Aaliyah credits her for shaping her into the woman she is.

“She had to pull herself together, and she had to be Mum, Dad. She’s made me the woman I am today all on her own.”

Coming onto Australian Idol isn’t just about Aaliyah’s own dreams, it’s for her dad too.

“She’s doing this for herself and her dad,” Laverne shared.

Well, you have our heart as well as our ears, Aaliyah. We can’t wait to see everything you’ve got!
