Have you heard about the new musical The Greatest Showman? Until the trailer dropped recently neither had I. With big names such as Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and the goddess formerly known as Zendaya, you’d think that there would’ve been more hype surrounding this upcoming film.
Although it isn’t set to be released until Christmas Day 2017, The Greatest Showman is already generating buzz online thanks to Zac Efron’s Twitter presence.

The film is based loosely on the life of P.T. Barnum, a man who thought it’d be a good idea to start a variety troupe and travel around the US during the 1830s. Barnum also bought a museum which he converted into a place filled with human curiosities and hoaxes (think “bearded ladies” and “mermaids”).
Barnum’s called his establishment “P.T Barnum’s Grand Travelling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan and Hippodrome”.
Which, y’know, is about as crazy as it sounds.
The film won’t be released to us Aussies until Boxing Day (typical). However, there will be huge appeal in seeing Hugh Jackman in a post-Wolverine role, plus his great vocals are sure to go off in the musical. Zac Efron has also of course proven his singing chops, and will undoubtedly be a draw card for many cinema-goers.
For those not so keen on musicals, Jackman insists the film won’t feel stuffy or old-fashioned.
“We were clear from the beginning that this wouldn’t feel like a period movie or a historical piece,”
“What would Barnum do now? I have an almost-12-year-old daughter. I wanted [the movie] to be as exciting for her as listening to Katy Perry’s new song.”
WOOOOOO. Check out the trailer below.
