MasterChef Australia is known for discovering culinary talents, and this season, Sumeet Saigal has emerged as a standout star.
Recently, she won an immunity challenge with her unique InTALIAN Simmer Sauce, a delicious blend of Indian and Italian flavours that secured her a spot in the top 10 and her sauce sold in Coles stores nationwide.
MasterChef star Sumeet reveals her inspiration behind the InTALIAN Simmer Sauce
Sumeet’s inspiration for her winning sauce came naturally from her heritage and love for Italian cuisine.
“With my background, when the challenge came up for a fusion sauce, I had to lean into my biggest strength, which is my heritage,” she told Chattr.
“I really know my Indian spices well, and combining that with Italian food, which I’ve always loved, felt like the most natural choice Both cuisines are all about warmth, generosity, big families, and shared memories.”
With her heart and soul poured into the sauce, it’s no wonder Sumeet’s creation stood out!
Sumeet says winning the challenge was “a dream come true”
For Sumeet, seeing her sauce on the shelves of Coles is nothing short of a dream come true.
“I’ve always been clear about my culinary dreams. MasterChef is an incredible platform that can take your journey as far as you want,” she explained.
“This challenge was perfect for me, and winning it aligns so well with my food dream.”
And Sumeet’s already got her sights set on what’s next.
“There are plans for more fusion sauces,” she revealed. “My mind has always been buzzing with ideas, but life and bills sometimes take over. Now, thanks to MasterChef, I can finally bring these ideas to life.”
“Indian cuisine is already a melting pot of various influences, and I want to show how versatile and unifying it can be.”
Sumeet dishes tips for home cooks
Sumeet’s winning dish featured InTALIAN meatballs served with naan and oregano chilli butter—a combo that had everyone talking.
If you’re keen to whip up a similar fusion dish at home, Sumeet has some top tips: “This sauce is incredibly versatile. You could pair it with pasta, use it in a curry, or even as a pizza base. It’s about breaking out of the typical boxes we put cuisines in and getting creative.”
Her advice? Don’t be afraid to mix things up and have a bit of fun in the kitchen. Fusion cooking is all about exploring and enjoying the best of different worlds!
