Nicole Kidman becomes the first Aussie honoured with the AFI Life Achievement Award

All hail our queen Nicole Kidman who has been honoured with the American Film Institute’s 49th Lifetime Achievement Award.

Not only is it a YUGE accomplishment, but it also marks the first time an Australian has been given the distinction.

The Oscar winner was presented with the accolade on April 18 by none other than industry icon Meryl Streep. Watched on by a room filled with A-listers including Reese Witherspoon, bestie Naomi Watts and her husband Keith Urban, she was humbled by the support.

“It is a privilege to make films,” Nicole said upon accepting the award while adding: “And glorious to have made films and television with these storytellers who allowed me to run wild and be free and play all of these unconventional women.”

“Thank you for making me better at my craft and giving me a place, however temporary, in this world.”

Joining Keith and Nicole were their two children Sunday Rose, 15 and Faith Margaret, 13, as well as Nicole’s sister Antonia and her husband Craig Marran and niece Sybella Hawley.

“I think they’re just like … they want to get started on their own careers,” Nicole told PEOPLE of her daughters, who made their red carpet debut.

“They are here to support me, and they’re very, very supportive and incredibly loving,” she said.
