Pop icons Harry Styles and Taylor Swift were the most listened-to artists in 2022 in Australia, and are we really all that surprised?
The two artists were named by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), alongside Aussie indie band Spacey Jane, as the recording artists who rounded out our soundtrack last year.
Making a phenomenal entrance into the charts in October, Swift’s Midnights played an enormous part in our soundtrack, receiving the most significant single sales week of any album in 2022 and taking a record nine of the top 10 singles in its first week.
The album spent seven weeks at the top of the Albums Chart and comes in at #1 on the ARIA End of Year Albums Chart. Absolutely INSANE.
As for the former One Direction bandmate, his third studio album Harry’s House spent eight weeks at the top of the Albums Chart after its release in May to take the number two position in 2022.
The 28-year-old’s single As It Was also claimed the #1 single of the year.
Aussie Musos Spacey Jane Were the Third Most Listened to Album In Australia In 2022
In a massive win for Aussie music, Spacey Jane’s Here Comes Everybody landed at the number three spot on the End of Year Vinyl Albums Chart, pulling in just behind Harry and Taylor.
The Freemantle indie band’s second album debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart in July reaching number 47 on the End of Year Albums Chart. The band’s first album, Sunlight, also reached number 15 on the End of Year Vinyl Albums Chart.
Elsewhere, The Kid LAROI’s 2021 smash hit album F*ck Love (Over You) remains in the top 25 for a second year, at number 21, after taking number three in 2021.
PNAU’s massive remix of Cold Heart featuring Elton John and Dua Lipa comes in just behind at number four; it also sat at number 13 in the 2021 year-end chart.
Other highlights from the year include Daniel Johns, who went to number one twice with FutureNever in May and then again in October, spending 11 weeks in the top 10.
Epic kids band — and arguably the most famous Aussies — The Wiggles, scored their first number one album in a career that stretches back to 1991, spanning 59 studio albums, three live albums and nine compilation albums!
