Married at First Sight’s Lauren Dunn has opened up about her feelings towards the love triangle involving Ellie Dix and Jono McCullough.
During the Commitment Ceremony that aired on Sunday, March 24, Tori Adams revealed that Jonathan had been messaging former MAFS bride Ellie behind his wife’s back, and Lauren was left shocked.
However, rather than being bitter about Jonathan’s recoupling, Lauren said that she was backing the budding relationship.
“I could not be happier for Jono. Me and him were forced to be together, we didn’t choose each other, and we gave it our absolute all,” Lauren told Daily Mail Australia.
“Honestly I could not be happier that they found love because Jono and I weren’t in love.”
“We didn’t have that and they are great together. I couldn’t [root for] them harder, to be honest.”
It’s since been revealed that Jonathan and Ellie are dating post-show.
Lauren on being intimate with Jonathan while he was messaging Ellie
Throughout the experiment, Jono and Lauren have had their ups and downs, but they reconnected during Home Stays and were intimate.
“It was difficult because we’d have a really good week, a really shitty week, and it would take us to point one,” she explained.
It was just days later that Lauren found out about Jono and Ellie’s secret messages, which started before Home Stays.
“We did have a really good homestay and we were obviously intimate and so it put a spanner in the works and made this situation a little bit harder for me to swallow than if we had have just been in a consistently bad spot,” she reflected.
Lauren doesn’t think that her relationship with Jonathan would have worked out anyway
Lauren told the publication that she doesn’t think that she and Jonathan would have survived as a couple, regardless of whether he was messaging Ellie or not.
“I don’t think things would have been any better if that didn’t come out, because we were talking about a few weekends we’d had, and it’d been consistently good for us, and that’s just not gonna last in the real world,” she shared.
During the Commitment Ceremony segment where Lauren found out about the messages, she looked devastated. However, the 32-year-old clarified that the situation triggered insecurities for her.
“It just triggered like old things that have happened in the past. So I was really emotional about it,” she said.
Looking back, Lauren has no regrets about how anything played out on MAFS.
“It’s surreal to watch it all back… I’m really at peace, and I am really happy, I’m genuinely happy for all the couples that have found love and really good friendships. I’m so thankful and happy that I did this experiment.”
