Lily on MasterChef

"It's tiring, it's exhausting, it's mentally stressful:" Lily on what the MasterChef kitchen is really like

From tricky challenges to odd ingredients; MasterChef Australia 2024 is about so much more than cooking; something that Lily Davies found out first-hand.

The Registered Nurse cooked her way through a number of challenging tasks but was ultimately eliminated during the May 12 episode.

In a post-elimination interview with Chattr, Lily explained just how much pressure there is when you’re cooking on national TV.

“It’s really stressful,” she admitted. “I think that’s one of the things you know before you sign up for it. You obviously only know so much before you go on but yeah it’s stressful.”

“It’s designed to test you and it tests your resilience. It tests your character. it’s tiring, it’s exhausting, It’s mentally stressful. You’re out of your comfort zone in more than one way,” she added.

However, despite the obstacles Lily faced, she said that she looks back on the experience as a whole in a positive light.

“Flip the coin! It’s amazing,” she said. “And we’re all so lucky to have been the 22 who have been chosen for this season.”

Lily on the new judge’s dynamic

MasterChef 2024 has seen a whole new panel of judges – bar returnee Andy Allen. Newcomers Poh Ling Yeow, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Sofia Levin have all donned their judge’s aprons for the first time, following the tragic and untimely death of former judge Jock Zonfrillo.

“I think they’ve they’ve had big shoes to fill this year with everything that’s happened over the last year,” Lily said, touching on Jock’s passing. “I can’t imagine how daunting that is, and I think they’ve all just fallen in and slotted in beautifully.”

“Fantastic mix. All very different palettes as well. Amazing guidance from all four of them.”

Lily explained that while the judges were all very lovely to her, she was aware that their role was to test her.

“Very lovely people very kind and they want the best for you. But it’s hard. It’s, it’s a test. It’s a challenge. They’re there to push you.”
