Get ready to make fetch happen all over again because the Mean Girls movie is almost here and we’ve been blessed with another nostalgia-filled trailer.
Cady Herron, Regina George, Gretchen Wiener and Karen Smith are all back for the reboot – but they’ll be played by different actresses than the OG Mean Girls film.
The trailer is absolutely jam-packed with references to the 2004 film, including Regina’s iconic ‘cool’ mum and the girls’ Christmas dance. You can watch it for yourself below:
Here’s everything we knew about the brand-new iteration.
What will the film be about?
Just like the OG film starring mega-celebs Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls follows new student Cady Heron who is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called “The Plastics,” ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George and her minions Gretchen and Karen.
However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels, she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group’s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis and Damian, she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.
While it is LITERALLY the synopsis, there’s a huge twist. It’s a musical, based on the hit Broadway show!
Who is in the cast?
The new flick features Aussie actor Angourie Rice (Mare of Easttown) as Cady Heron, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) as Janis ‘Imi’ike, Reneé Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as Regina George, newcomer Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard, Avantika (Senior Year) as Karen Shetty, Bebe Wood (Love, Victor) as Gretchen Wieners, Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty) as Aaron Samuels, Jenna Fischer (The Office) as Ms. Heron, Busy Philipps (Girls 5Ever) as Mrs. George, Ashley Park (Emily in Paris) as Madame Park, Tina Fey (creator, Only Murders in the Building) as Ms. Norbury, Tim Meadows (Mean Girls) as Mr. Duvall and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Coach Carr.
Who’s behind the flick?
Lorne Michaels and Fey both created and produced the new movie, with Fey serving as writer. The music, which is also seen in the stage production was composed by Jeff Richmond who also happens to be Fey’s husband!
When can we watch it?
While we think October 3 would have been a better choice, Mean Girls will be released in cinemas on January 11, 2024.
