The Block Recap Episode 16: Gian has induction issues and the break-dancing challenge…happens

It’s episode 16 of The Block 2023 and Scotty Cam and Shelley Craft are touring the houses for their weekly walk around.

As expected, when they arrive at House Five, they’re not sure what to think of Eliza and Liberty’s moss wall.

“But what does it do?” Shelley asks while Scotty brings out a dad joke.

“People buy exit mould to get rid of that stuff,” he says. Lol.

Meanwhile, both Shelley and Scott agree that Leslie and Kyle’s small but mighty powder room could actually win, meaning it would be another Block first if the smallest room wins.

Shelley Craft. Nine

While we’ve grown quite fond of not hearing our contestants moan about each other, there is growing tension between Leah and Kristy (in the blue corner) and Steph (in the red corner). Leah and Kristy are sick of hearing Steph’s constant advice on how to do things…

Gian and the drama of the Stonemason

A tough situation begins to unfold with Gian and his stonemason, who needs to be inducted with The Block builders Nine In Six; however, he doesn’t have the correct documentation.

Adding to the woes, the stonemason has to install the stone bench on Friday afternoon because he’s a very busy person and cannot make it on Saturday.

After some serious stressing in House Four, Gian manages to negotiate with Nine In Six to get him inducted. Crisis averted.

The break dancing challenge precisely no one asked for

Oh. This.

Leslie returns from Perth just in the nick of time to keep on building for the break dancing challenge and after her fall the previous day, Steph has the all-clear to participate.

In case you were worried, unsurprisingly Eliza and Liberty took the challenge win, adding another $10,000 to their bank plus a secret gnome they can use, as long as no one else finds out.

Leah and Ash come second, and Steph and Gian place third.

Nine

Because some people cannot let sh** go, some eyebrows were raised after Steph appeared to do her whole routine without any sign of injury, which I’m sure went down a treat as the Blockhead headed to the pub, The Esp to celebrate a ~FuN~ night…

Meet Adam’s replacement on Below Deck Down Under, Luka Brunton

The revolving door on Below Deck Down Under is still spinning, with new deckhand Luka Brunton joining the crew.

The new deckhand’s recruitment follows Adam Kodra’s dismissal for accidentally dropping the anchor while the superyacht was cruising at full speed.

“We’re going to let you go, and I’m going to bring in a lead deckhand. I just need someone with more experience,” Captain Jason told Adam during episode 13.

Luka has joined the team under the guidance of bosun, João Franco, who is another recent addition following the firing of bosun Luke.

Is Luka single?

In heartbreaking news for the singles out there, Luka is happily married to a model named Lorena, who lives in Bali. She has an OnlyFans account which can be found via her Instagram bio.

The two have been together since before Covid and spent quarantine locked down together. While they’ve both posted pics of the dog they have together, neither have shared photos from their wedding on social media.

What is Luka’s Instagram?

You can check out all of Luka’s thirst traps right here.

How old is Luka?

Luka is 25 years old and his birthday is on October 31, making him a Scorpio. His mum and dad split when he was just one, and he was raised solely by his mother before she met his now step-dad when he was five years old.

Does Luka have experience in yachting?

Yes! Luka’s been in the industry for seven years. The New Zealander also admitted that his “wildest charter guest story” featured some A-List celebrities.

“I have had some high-profile guests visit a yacht. We had to pick them up in a tender in the middle of the night with no lights on so they wouldn’t be seen,” he said in his Bravo cast bio.

Does Luka know any of the other crew members?

Luka and chief stew Aesha Scott go way back.

“I love Luka,” Aesha said in an interview during the episode. “When I first started yachting, my sister and I went to France to look for our first yachting jobs together. And that’s when I became friends with Luka. He’s just one of those guys [who] everyone is drawn to and everyone likes.”

Aesha later clarified that Luka had dated her little sister seven years ago.

“Luka knows my sister very well,” she joked, before revealing that he had also hooked up with Below Deck Down Under season one’s Magda Ziomek.

Luka shared his excitement to work with Aesha in a separate interview.

“[It’s] so good to see Aesha again,” he said. “She’s like family, actually.”

Shark Tank’s Jane Lu reveals what happened with Stryda after the episode wrapped

Shark Tank Australia 2023’s premiere episode saw all five judges show a surprising amount of interest in an insole product.

Called Stryda, it is the only insole made with over 90% cork and has impressive profit margins, which gained the Sharks’ attention.

Sabri Suby, Dr. Catriona Wallace, Davie Fogarty, Jane Lu and Robert Herjavec all threw down offers for the product, and all of the Sharks bar Wallace banded together and struck a deal with the company’s entrepreneur Thien Tranh.

While the amount of enthusiasm the Sharks had for Stryda was certainly promising, viewers were left wondering whether their investment was successful.

Thien. Nine

Fortunately, Lu has given an update, and it’s fair to say that Stryda is thriving.

“This Shark Tank has grown by 11 times since we filmed five months ago and I’m gonna tell you how we did it,” Lu said in a post shared on her Instagram.

The Showpo CEO said that Stryda is one of the “most exciting pitches in Shark Tank history.”

“When we first saw the product we all thought, ‘Boring, next’. But, then Thien the entrepreneur started pitching and he had us hooked [and] every single Shark made an offer”

Suby, Fogarty, Lu and Herjavec all invested in Stryda in a group deal.

“Not everyone knows this, but the Sharks actually invest their own money, after a very rigorous due diligence process, of course,” she clarified.

“So Stryda now makes more in a month than it had made in the whole year before coming on Shark Tank.”

How did the Sharks make Stryda so successful?

Lu explained that she and the other Sharks worked on Stryda’s branding and digital marketing to improve sales.

“We cranked up his social media content to get heaps of eyeballs on his brand and his website. And it was a way to listen to what his potential customers wanted. So that we could expand the product, we rebranded Stryda as ‘Home of Happy Feet’. Because Happy Feet equals happy bodies,” she said.

“And, we’re selling more than a product, we’re creating a brand. We tweaked his website to improve his conversion rate and then optimised his paid ads and now we’re forecasting a run rate of a million dollars by October.”

Then, like the successful businesswoman she is, Lu shamelessly encouraged her followers to follow Stryda on Instagram.

“This is just the start we have big plans, so follow Stryda to join us on the journey.”

Shark Tank continues on Tuesday, September 5 on 10 and 10Play.

Shark Tank Australia 2023 Recap Episode 1: The Sharks make one business an offer they can’t refuse

It’s episode one of Shark Tank Australia 2023 and five new investors have begun to circle some incredible businesses for the “world’s best business show”.

Before we begin, we see a disclaimer: “The following are actual negotiations between entrepreneurs and investor ‘Sharks’. The Sharks invest their own money at their discretion.”

Ten

Firstly, before we could see the pitches, it was time to meet the Sharks: Sabri SubyDr Catriona WallaceDavie FogartyJane Lu, and the OG Shark from Shark Tank US, Robert Herjavec. And has mentioned previously, they’re investing their own cash!

Pitch #1 – Boring Without You (David Rooney)

The Pitch

Boring Without You is the only skincare brand dedicated to people with combination skin.

Formulated with a team of dermatologists and cosmetic chemists, they include evidence-based ingredients with third-party peer-reviewed studies.

Davey found that there were no products dedicated to the skin type and launched his brand nine months ago.

The Product

He presented For Face Sake to the Sharks, a multi-mask made with two formulas and one Jar, giving you a “double date for your face”.

The Investment Wish

Davey was seeking $30,000 for 20% equity.

The Shark’s Offer

Overall the Sharks said it was a “great pitch”.

  • Sabri: $56,000 for 30% equity – $36,000 in cash and $20,000 in marketing support with King Kong Agency
  • Davie: First offer – $36,000 for 30% equity, Second offer: $50,000 for 20%
  • Jane: $36,000 for 30% equity plus wanted to grow the company globally

  • Dr Catriona: Out
Offer Accepted

Davey accepted, ummm… Davie’s offer of $50,000 for 20%.

Pitch #2 – Pixxie (Poppy)

The Pitch

After her mum — who passed away in 2016 — was diagnosed with stage four bone and breast cancer, Poppy would watch movies in hospital with her, huddled together on the bed. One night, Poppy’s mum said: “Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could have a movie night together on the ward so everyone could enjoy magical memories”. And so Pixxie was born.

The Product

The Pixxie Portable Projector is a lightweight family home cinema. Combining the latest technology to bring you the most powerful battery-operated, 180-degree portable cinematic experience and it comes with a fully adjustable stand and carry handle.

The product retails for $749 and has made over $1 million in revenue in 2.5 years.

The Investment Wish

Poppy was seeking $50,000 for 30% equity.

The Shark’s Offer

The Sharks felt the product was overpriced but had great packaging and was great quality.

  • Dr Catriona: Out

Pitch #3 – The Punching Pro (Chris)

He is using Python technology (coding program) to control the robot and will patent the inside.

The Investment Wish

Chris was seeking $200,000 for 20% equity.

The Shark’s Offer

Robert said it didn’t look finished, but thought it was really cool…after he almost got knocked out!

The Product

Stryda soles are made from cork and can be slipped into any shoe. They also have TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) approval and work with the muscles in your feet to ensure you’re walking correctly.

They retail at $79.95.

The Investment Wish

Thien was seeking $50,000 for 10% equity.

The Shark’s Offer

The Sharks fought over Stryda

  • Sabri: $50,000 for 30% equity plus $2 royalty,
  • Davie: $50,000 for 45% equity
  • Jane: $50,000 for 45% equity

Pitch #5 – Vanta (Patrick)

The Product

It has soft, silky fabric, designed for everyday wear and starts at $33.00. In case you wondering, the “whole family” can fit into the pouch…

In the Australian and New Zealand market, the business has made over $8 million dollars in four years with 15% profit, before tax; however, they are not first in market.

The Investment Wish

Patrick was seeking $500,000 for 5% equity.

The Block Recap Episode 15: Eliza and Liberty are working in chaos and Steph falls down…a hole

It’s episode 15 of The Block and there are now only five days until the Guest Bathroom Reveal.

While all the other Blockheads — including her own husband — are working away on their powder/bathrooms, Leslie leaves for a couple of days to go home for a wedding and to see her babes.

Like Deja Vu, we’re back for Waterproof Wednesday as Foremen Keith and Dan are making their way around Charming St. inspecting the properties.

As mentioned during episode 14, Eliza and Liberty are installing a moss wall, which arrives and they love it. However, they’re also living up to the fact that they’re the little sisters of The Block because Dan can’t handle the chaos that is their building site.

Eliza and Liberty’s chaos. Nine

Meanwhile, over in House Three, Kristy and Brett think another builder has stolen one of their signature pieces, 1956 Melbourne Olympic-styled bricks that were found in the original house on Charming St.

On top of this, Kristy crashes her Ford into a bollard at the service station causing quite a bit of damage which is not ideal…

Kristy’s accident. Nine

Eliza and Liberty are also not having a good time, given that they’re now in trouble with Keith and Dan for using power tools after 5 p.m.  As we all know, this is a Block no-no and leads Eliza to say that this is her worst day on The Block.

Suspiciously quiet, Leah and Ash and Steph and Gian are actually busy working. But obviously not hard enough as they don’t make waterproof Wednesday. But never fear, both teams are not too concerned, thinking they’re just a little behind.

After not making the Bathroom milestone, things go from bad to worse as Steph falls into a hole. No joke. She is more embarrassed than hurt and has to get checked out by a doctor.

Steph, after falling in a hole. Nine

Another mini-challenge takes place with Liberty taking home $5000 before the godforsaken breakdancing rehearsals continue…

Interview: The Sharks reveal whether Shark Tank is real or fake

Two of the Sharks featured on Shark Tank Australia 2023 have made it abundantly clear that they invest their own money into the entrepreneurs pitching businesses on the show.

Speaking on Mediaweek and Chattr’s The Entertainment Hotline Podcast Sabri Suby and Jane Lu said that the network do not give them any funds towards their investments.

“Everyone is under the assumption that the network gives us some kind of Monopoly money, right?” Suby said.

“We’re not paid to be on the show. It’s all our own money. We don’t know anything about these entrepreneurs more than the viewers do when they come and watch one of the pitches.

“We’ve got a very short amount of time to get down to the real situation of like, ‘Hey, I’m actually going to be writing a cheque to this person, so I need to know where we stand with everything.”

Shark Tank. Ten.

Lu also revealed that she invested her own money on Shark Tank Australia in some businesses that she wouldn’t normally find herself aligned with.

“I understand a product business. I think that where it’s my specialty lies, and also where I can see myself giving value. Where I could actually use my experience to actually give that business that step up. But that being said, I definitely invested in other types of businesses [on Shark Tank Australia].”

What can viewers expect from pitches on this season of Shark Tank Australia?

Like the gazillion seasons of Shark Tank that have aired around the world, the new Australian season will see hopeful entrepreneurs pitch business ideas in the hope that the Sharks will invest money in exchange for a percentage ownership.

Shark Tank. Ten.

Speaking of the most “stand out” pitches on Shark Tank Australia 2023, Suby teased that one man pitched a very memorable idea.

“There was one gentleman who had a very touching story. He was selling a product to do with feet. That’s all I can go into. He wasn’t selling pictures of his feet. It was to do with it,” he revealed.

Suby added that he witnessed some “phenomenal” pitches during the season.

“There was a very good food one that I’m a little bit regretful that it didn’t turn out the way that I wanted it to. We had everything from skincare products to orthopaedic orthotic insoles. There was so there’s such a wide variety of entrepreneurs, and we really weren’t told anything [before they pitched].”

You can watch Shark Tank on 10 and 10Play.

Interview: The Traitors’ Luke Toki reveals whether Sam would make it on Survivor

Eliminated The Traitors Australia contestant – and Survivor fan favourite – Luke Toki has dished on whether he believes Traitor Sam would be able to handle a stint on the Survivor beach.

Throughout his time on The Traitors, Sam has managed to convenience his co-stars that he shouldn’t be voted out, despite quite obviously being a Traitor. He even managed to get Annabelle and Luke, the two contestants campaigning against him – eliminated from the game.

“Hopefully one day I get to meet him on the Survivor beach and maybe return the favour,” Luke told Chattr in an interview about Sam’s choice to ‘murder’ Luke and have him evicted.

Survivor. Ten.

Luke added that he wasn’t sure that Sam had all the qualities to OutwitOutplay, Outlast that are required for Survivor, but admits he could be wrong.

“I think he’d make a better Traitor [than a Survivor contestant]. I think it would be very interesting. I think he’s got big balls,” he said.

“That’s what you need on a show like Survivor because you need to play to a point where you’re fearless and I think he’s definitely got the goods to do that. So I would like to see him out on the beach.”

Luke added that he appreciated that Sam approached The Traitors as a game, and didn’t take things to heart.

“Sam saying he outwitted me and outplayed me, I think it’s hilarious, and good on him,” he said.

The Traitors. Ten.

“I like a good sport where there’s no hard feelings. You can come out of these shows and you can really have fallingouts with people because they take things to heart.

“I don’t take things to heart. Things can get very salty after the show’s finished. For example, if you’ve called someone dumb and you’re trying to attack someone’s pact or make them look stupid, people can get really upset about it and it can cause friction between people, but Sammy is a good sport.”

Does Luke want Sam to win The Traitors?

Despite being a Faithful on The Traitors, Luke admitted that he’d like to see Sam take home the win because he believes he’s played a solid game.

“I’d love Sammy to win, to be honest. Right now, tell me one person who deserves it more?

“Sam’s got this far, so now, I don’t see how The Faithfuls can stop him unless they have some sort of epiphany. He’s very fun to watch.

The Traitors. Ten.

“I feel sorry for the Faithfuls because they are looking not that intelligent,” he added.

Would Luke return to Survivor?

Survivor super fans rejoice! Because Luke would love to return for another season of the reality TV show that made him famous.

“I wouldn’t mind having one last run on Survivor to finally hopefully get that title. It’s the one that’s escaped me! I feel like I deserve a win.”

Survivor. Ten.

The Traitors airs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on 10 and 10 Play.

To celebrate the new season, here’s a look at some of the most life-changing products from previous seasons.

Cancer Aid

Cancer Aid founders Dr Nikhil Pooviah, Dr Raghav Murali-Ganesh, and Dr Martin Seneviratne asked for a $500,000 investment in exchange for 10% equity, valuing the business at $5 million.

After negotiations, the founders received the requested investment from two Sharks, and today the company has grown in valuation to an estimated net worth of $20 million.

Cancer Aid is the number one cancer app in Australia, the USA, and the UK and aims at improving the overall care of cancer patients.

Throat Scope

Jennifer Holland presented her patented Throat Scope device, an illuminating LED-lit tongue depressor with a disposable blade, which can be used by medical professionals or parents to easily examine the mouth and throat.

Investor Steve Baxter injected $76,000 into the project in return for a 30% stake in the company and a 5% royalty till the money is paid back.

According to Holland’s official Holland Healthcare Inc website, the team raised $360,000 on a pre-sale valuation of $2 million and got the product to market.

Since then, they have sealed major deals with some of the largest healthcare, wholesale and pharmacy distributors in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Canada.

Original Rescue Swag

In season one, Tracey Beikoff pitched the Original Rescue Swag, a comprehensive first aid kit that doubles as a sling, splint, compression device, and water carrier.

Now owned by the RFDS (Queensland Section), all profits from the product flow directly back to support the Flying Doctor.

The product has gone on to have an estimated net worth well in excess of $20 million.

The Traitors Recap Episode 6: Sam firmly cements himself as the ultimate villain

It’s episode six of The Traitors Australia 2023 and Traitors Sam and Blake are still coming for each other with guns blazing.

Blake arrives at the breakfast still frustrated as he believes Sam conspired against him with some of the Faithfuls in episode five.

Meanwhile, Camille admits to the camera that she’s a former federal agent, not a stay-at-home mum like her co-stars believe. She says that she’s been reading some of the contestant’s body language and believes that if Sam enters the room and Luke doesn’t, then Sam is a Traitor.

That exact scenario happens, and the contestants grow weary of Sam. However, he confidently tells the camera that he will conjure up a big story and throw the target off his own back.

The Challenge

The contestants are given the opportunity to win $10,000, plus $28,000 that they’ve missed out on in missions, bringing the potential amount to win on the mission to $48,000. To win, the contestants simply have to take one bar at a time to the top of a hill.

Of course, the track is steep and long, and the contestants are also given heavy 20kg backpacks to carry. Sam, Camille, Keith and Liam excel at the challenge, while Blake, Hannah and Sarah struggle.

Sam’s in the lead and anonymously switches his silver bar for a key to the armoury, where the Immunity Shield can be won. Keith takes the same deal.

On his second mission up the hill, Sam bizarrely accepts a protein shake in exchange for his $2000 bar, and on the third, he swaps a bar for champagne that he doesn’t even drink – firmly cementing himself as the villain.

By the time that the clock ran out, $34,000 in silver bars had been taken to the top of the hill. However, $16,000 of those had been exchanged for rewards, leaving the team with winnings of just $18,000.

At the armoury Sam won the shield, meaning he couldn’t be ‘murdered’ at the upcoming ceremony.

Who was banished?

Although the group was planning on targeting Sam after Luke’s ‘murder’ the previous night, as always, he managed to talk himself out of it.

He threw attention towards Simone, and many of his co-stars ate up his words and voted for her, and she was ultimately eliminated.

The Traitors airs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on 10 and 10 Play.

Well, sh**. Stan’s Love Triangle is back for season 2 and MAFS’ Ella May Ding is front and centre

Stan’s Love Triangle is back for season two and this time, Married at First Sight alum Ella May Ding is joining the show.

Announced on August 29, the next instalment — which drops on October 5 only on Stan — will welcome six new singles on the hunt for a mind-blowing romantic connection as well as Ding, as the show’s narrator.

What will season two be about?

The official synopsis reads: In a ‘swipe left’/ ‘swipe right’ culture, often based on pictures alone, Love Triangle challenges a group of singles to relinquish their grasp on what they think their perfect partner should look like, and instead choose from two potential suitors, sight unseen, inspired by a deeper connection. Once they date their first pick, they move in together and build on the connection they’ve formed, until their second choice comes knocking…

The Block 2023 Recap Episode 14: Leah wages war on Nine in Six over the rain damage

It’s episode 14 of The Block 2023 and we’ve just entered…*checks notes*…week three and it’s time to get our Guest Bathroom on!

Following on from the August 27 Room Reveals, Leah’s issues with the judges’ feedback continue to rage on.

Once again, she is not happy, Jan that she and Ash came equal last with Eliza and Liberty. She’s also not happy, Jan that Steph and Gian have won again, calling their beige style “Seven shades of Arrowroot biscuit.” Lol.

As per usual, the Blockheads venture around each property for the Domain Open For Inspections and Leah is absolutely fuming, thinking she and Ash are being unfairly judged.

Steph and Gian. Nine

Planning the Guest Bathrooms

Leaving her to her woes, it’s time for the contestants to start planning their bathrooms.

Kyle and Leslie decide to take the shower out of their room, which is the smallest room on The Block, turning it into a beautiful, but small, powder room.

Eliza and Liberty have also decided to create a Block first with a moss feature wall that will no doubt be controversial.

Leah and Ash start a fight with Nine in Six

Back with Leah and Ash, they are on the warpath and have started a war with Scotty Cam’s builders, Nine In Six. After being consistently told to tarp up their house (which they didn’t) Leah decides to blame the builders for not…doing enough.

Unsurprisingly, the fight gets very emotional with Aidan and Simmo explaining the situation, before Ash walks with his tail between his legs and offers them up a bottle of scotch as an apology.

Another (weird) challenge and the Bob Awards

In another challenge no one asked for, the Blockheads have to… once again, *checks notes* breakdance?! They’re told they will have to perform it later on and seriously, does anyone actually build anything on this show?

In exciting news, Tom the plumber returns and gives this week’s Bob Awards, awarding Eliza and Liberty the best building team plus an extra $10,000 thanks to HiPages.

The Traitors Recap Episode 5: The dynamic duo of Traitors is beginning to fall apart

It’s episode five of The Traitors Australia 2023 and Blake and Sam, who were once the powerful pair of Traitors, are showing cracks in their armour.

While overnight, Roha was ‘murdered’, Annabel continued to prove that she was aware of who the Traitors were when she arrived at breakfast and voiced her suspicions about Blake.

She said that Blake’s dramatic reaction to Ian leaving in episode four, despite not having a close friendship with him, made it evident that he was trying to blend in.

The Challenge

The remaining 11 contestants were split into two groups; one of five and one of six. One group was individually strapped to old-school torture devices, while the other group was asked revealing questions about the group.

If both sides of the team had the same answer, the contestants would win a silver bar, but the torture device would be utilised if they didn’t.

Round one saw four correct answers and two punishments, and round two had two correct answers and three wrong ones, meaning every player got tortured at some point.

The Traitors. Ten.

Contestants Gloria, Blake, Liam, Keith, Annabelle and Sam competed with Traitor Blake winning the Immunity Shield, meaning he could murder whoever he liked and remove much of the suspicion from himself.

Who was banished?

Luke and Annabelle continued their campaign to eliminate one of the Traitors and decided to target Blake because they thought that Sam would be on board with them.

While Annabel and Luke’s chats with contestants went well in the lead-up to elimination, the banishment ceremony didn’t go so well. Her gameplay turned suspicion back around on her, and the team ultimately voted to get rid of her.

Although another Faithful was kicked out of the mansion, the Traitors came head to head post-ceremony. Blake was frustrated that he’d heard that Sam was ready to write down his name. However, Sam told Blake that if he’d wanted him gone, he would already be banished because he “never misses”.

The Traitors airs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on 10 and 10 Play.
