Season two of the iconic star-making series Australian Idol kicked off with a show-stealing audition which left judge Kyle Sandilands in tears.
Dylan Wright, a 30-year-old father of two from New South Wales, captivated the audience with his remarkable acoustic rendition of the iconic Aussie ballad Better Be Home Soon by Crowded House which he dedicated to his late mother.
The outstanding performance earned him one of the four coveted Golden Tickets of the night, setting an awe-inspiring standard for the rest of the competition.
“That was so beautiful. I don’t usually cry in the presence of other men, but what a sweetheart you are. I loved it,” Kyle told him.
Meanwhile, Amy Shark called Dylan a “freaking superstar”.
“Amy agreed, saying: “I think you are a freaking superstar! “That was such a great performance. You’ve got everything: a kind heart, a great performer, and you’ve got a look.”
Who else received a golden ticket?
The three remaining golden tickets went to 20-year-old Ivana Illic from Victoria, who took on Alicia Keys’ I Got You; 19-year-old Queensland pub singer Ripley Welsh, who left the judges swooning with a performance of Abba’s Mamma Mia; and Marcia’s wildcard entrant, 20-year-old Billy Menhennet from Victoria, who performed Zach Bryan’s Something in the Orange.
Australian Idol continues at 7.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on Channel 7 and 7plus.
