And Just Like That, Sex And The City fans have had their wildest wishes granted with the news that Kim Cattrall will be reprising her role as Samantha Jones in the popular spinoff.
While Variety confirmed that Cattrall will be returning to her iconic role in Binge’s And Just Like That; she will only be making a small cameo in one scene.
“Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King,” the publication reported.
It’s no secret that despite playing on-screen besties over six seasons of SATC, Parker (who plays Carrie Bradshaw) and Cattrall have had their real-life differences.
What’s the beef between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall?
The rift between Parker and Cattrall is loooooong and appeared to first become public knowledge in 2017 when Cattrall refused to do a third Sex And The City movie.
Despite the other leading actors of the franchise, Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon gunning for it, at the time, Cattrall told Piers Morgan that she’d “never been friends” with the other SATC leading ladies. Oop!
The comment kicked off a public feud between Cattrall and Parker, with the latter telling Andy Cohen on his show Watch What Happens Live that she was “heartbroken” over her co-star’s comment.
Then, in 2018, Cattrall accused Parker on social media of offering condolences over the death of her father in an act to clean up her image.
“My Mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,” Cattrall wrote in the post.
“Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
In 2018, Parker stressed that there was “no fight” between her and Cattrall but threw shade in 2022 when she publicly said that her former co-star wasn’t asked to be part of And Just Like That. That same year, during an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Parker said the comments Cattrall publicly made about her were “very painful”.
While it’s never officially been confirmed, the general consensus is that Cattrall refused to return to the Sex And The City spinoff because of her feud with Parker and her upcoming cameo that didn’t see her film scenes with Parker only supports this theory.
