Australians around the nation will be required to vote in The Voice referendum this Saturday.
The vote will determine whether Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders will be given an independent and permanent advisory body.
After voting closes on Saturday evening, the votes will be tallied and Channel Seven is broadcasting a live telecast of the decision.
The TV event will start with a special edition of 7NEWS which continues into a half-hour 7NEWS special as the first count comes in, hosted by Michael Usher. He will be joined by leaders from both sides including Federal Education Minister Jason Clare and Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie, with insight and analysis from 7NEWS Political Editor Mark Riley.
Coverage continues throughout the night with a comprehensive bulletin live from 10.00pm AEDT, until the decision is announced on air.
Is it compulsory to vote in The Voice referendum?
Yes. Voting in the Voice referendum is compulsory for all eligible Australian citizens aged 18 years and over
How do I vote in The Voice referendum?
You should already be on the electoral roll and polling places will open between 8am and 6pm around the country on Saturday, October 14th.
Once you arrive you’ll visit a desk where you can check in. You’ll then be given a slip to take to the voting booth. The slip reads: “A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?”
At the voting booth, you can write ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in the box, and then you can put the slip in the allocated slot.
