“Girls can do anything a boy can do and more,” Anne Shirley proudly proclaims in the new trailer for the Netflix adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. It’s little wonder the feisty carrot haired character who first captured the hearts of children across the globe 100 years ago is still so admired.

In our first glimpse of the new adaptation of the classic 1908 novel, Anne is shown arriving at Green Gables in her iconic smock, pigtails and straw hat combo. What should be the happiest day of Anne’s life seems to end in disaster as her new foster parents proclaim they had been expecting a boy.

So begins the classic coming of age story about an orphan girl with heart and imagination who is simply trying to find her place in the world.

The eight part mini-series simply named “Anne” is sure to capture the minds and hearts of fans of the well-loved story all over again when it premieres in May. Starring Amybeth McNulty as Anne (with an e) the series is the latest in a long list of adaptations of the 1908 children’s classic by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
