If you’re one of the many people who have tucked into Netflix’s Territory, you’ve probably been wondering where the popular series’ scenes were filmed.
With the beautiful landscapes and stunning aerial shots—plus new research from YouGov and Toyota Australia showing that nine out of 10 Australians want to disconnect and go back to their roots—you wouldn’t be the only one.
We’re craving more meaningful travel experiences right now, and this show is making us hungrier than ever for them! OK, no more teasing.
As you may have guessed by its predominately Australian cast — including Anna Torv (The Last Of Us), Clarence Ryan (Furiousa: A Mad Max Saga), Dan Wylie (Wolf Like Me) and Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla) — Territory was filmed in Australia.
Keep reading to see Territory‘s filming locations.
Where was Territory filmed?
Territory‘s production was supported by Screen Territory and the South Australian Film Corporation so yep, you guessed it, filming locations include the Northern Territory and South Australia.
As to be expected from the landscapes you see on the production (did you know the show was previously called Desert King?), a lot of the filming locations were in highly remote areas.
Actor Robert Taylor (who plays Colin Lawson) even found a big snake under his bed and in the sink during production. Yep, he told Cowboys & Indians, “You should have seen the one under the bed, dude. It was that fat.”

Mallala
According to Greater SA, The Adelaide Plains town of Mallala was also a Territory filming location, with actors and cameras seen descending on the farming community to shoot scenes. It has been widely reported that this is the biggest Netflix series to be filmed in South Australia, and post-production also took place in the Aussie state.
Northern Territory filming locations
Kakadu National Park
Many Top End scenes were filmed in Kakadu National Park, one of the largest National Parks in Australia. Kakadu National Park was the filming location for the “Sorry Place” — a sacred site to the Indigenous people in Territory — and featured in numerous aerial shots throughout the series.
To get there yourself, you’ll need to drive roughly 240km from Darwin airport, depending on which part of the park you want to get to.
I was recently invited on a trip to Kakadu, where I drove a Toyota LandCruiser Prado — the perfect ride for an outback adventure (what’s more Aussie than that?!). With Toyota and YouGov’s research saying 11 million Aussies haven’t even visited the NT, it would be rude to not offer a three-day road trip itinerary for inspo.
Tipperary Station
While Marianne Station isn’t real, co-creator Ben Davies told if.com.au that they did in fact shoot at a cattle station in the Northern Territory.
According to AATKings, the cattle station filmed for Territory is Tipperary Station, a legitimate cattle station measuring 954,000 acres. Workers of Tipperary stations were even used as extras!
“We have just started shooting on a cattle station in the Northern Territory,” he told if.com.au back in September 2023.
“Of the 180 crew we have in the Territory, at least 140 are living on the station. It’s a monumental effort by production to pull this off in such a remote place.
“In terms of infrastructure and scale, this cattle property is unmatched anywhere else in the world, so fortunately, it can accommodate our large cast and crew.”
Darwin
A bunch of Territory scenes were filmed in and around Darwin, including Lee Point, which is where the coastal scenes of Nolan Brannock’s Laggan Downs property were shot. It’s also where Sandra Kirby (Sara Wiseman) wants to build her port in Territory.
Crab Claw Island Resort is another filming location, spotted when Sandra offers Emily Lawson a tempting deal.
Litchfield National Park
Remember when Susie Lawson (Phillippa Northeast) and Lachie Kirby (Joe Klocek) have a swim after a big day at Marianne Station? That’s Litchfield National Park’s Wangi Falls.
Territory is one of the most exciting Australian productions to have hit Netflix, and we’re not the only ones who think so — the six-part series quickly shot to the Top 10 and has been comfortably sitting there since its release in October 2024.
It also hit #3 in the global Top 10 English TV Show list within a week of its release date. How good is it to see outback Australia on the world map?!
