In 2001, a racing action film burst into mainstream pop culture with a whopping eight more films following in its wake, and now Fast X is the beginning of the end. And what better way to send off the Fast and Furious franchise than with an all-star cast!
While we’re not 100% sure it’s the actual last film, it’s safe to say a movie with the tagline “The end of the road begins” is alluding to that fact.
On February 12, the official trailer for the latest instalment was released and the plot is as long as the list of flicks before it.
What is Fast X about?
The official synopsis reads: Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path.
Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who are fueled by blood revenge and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.
In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro.
They didn’t know that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.
Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica.
New allies will be forged, and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
On April 20, the final official trailer for Fast X was released.
Who is in the returning Fast X cast?
While Vin Diesel v Momoa is already a huge drawcard, the cast of Fast X is more star-studded than ever.
Alongside the two MEGA STARS are returning Fast and Furious franchise stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, John Cena, Scott Eastwood and Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
Who is new to the Fast and the Furious franchise in Fast X?
New cast members include Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency, Alan Richtson (Reacher) as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn’t hold the same fondness for Dom’s crew as his predecessor, Mr Nobody; Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom’s past; and legendary Oscar winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story) as Dom and Mia’s Abuelita Toretto.
Fast X will be released in cinemas in May 2023.
