75th Emmy Awards: Elton John achieves EGOT status

Elton John has achieved EGOT status after his Live show won Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards for Farewell From Dodger Stadium.

John is the 19th person ever to get an EGOT.

He has won five Grammys (his first in 1987 for That’s What Friends Are For), an Oscar for Best Original Song in 1994 for The Lion King’s Can You Feel the Love Tonight and in 2000, he won a Tony Award for his Aida score.

Unfortunately, John was recovering from a knee operation and couldn’t attend the ceremony; however, his team, including his husband David Furnish, accepted the award on his behalf.

Farewell From Dodger Stadium showcased the icon’s final North American show as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour which began in 2018 and was then postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
