Surely you’ve heard of Harry Styles. If he’s not infiltrating your ears through his latest album, you’ll be pleased to know he’s coming to a screen near you very shortly. You see, Styles has landed a role in Christopher Nolan’s latest film Dunkirk.
Dunkirk is a World War II film set to be released this week. However, despite the hype that the name ‘Harry Styles’ brings to people around the world (myself included), Nolan has claimed to have not known who he was before casting him in the film.
Nolan told the Associated Press:
“I mean, my daughter had talked about him. My kids talked about him, but I wasn’t really that aware of it. So the truth is, I cast Harry because he fit the part wonderfully and truly earned a seat at the table”.
The man who’s brought us films such as Inception, Interstellar and the Batman trilogy with Christian Bale, claims to not know who Styles is. I’m not entirely sure I believe that. You don’t put so much effort and love into the films that you make without doing a quick social media sweep or even a Google on the people you’re considering for the roles.
Unless, of course, he’s so busy that he just trusts the people who do the casting and then gets the final say in it all.
With this news, Styles will be stoked to know that he’s made it in on merit alone instead of the hype around him as a person and artist. That’s got to feel good coming from such an iconic director. Lucky duck.
Dunkirk is in a cinema near you sometime next week. Keep an eye out for it! It’s looking to be a good film. Where else are you going to see Harry Styles film debut?
