Chris Dawson's past crimes are in the spotlight again in new podcast The Teacher's Accuser

The Australian has released a brand-new new podcast The Teacher’s Accuser, which delves into convicted murderer Chris Dawson’s alleged 1980 affair with a 16-year-old.

It’s the third instalment for the publication, which details Dawson’s associated crimes and follows in the footsteps of their prior releases The Teacher’s Pet and The Teacher’s Trial, both of which covered his high-profile murder case.

The drop coincides with Dawson’s court proceedings surrounding the unlawful sex case, which began in the NSW District Court on May 29.

The Teacher’s Accuser, supported by Harvey Norman, will feature news and analysis from the trial of convicted murderer Chris Dawson who stands accused of having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old in 1980 when he was working as a physical education teacher on Sydney’s northern beaches,” a press release about the podcast said.

Who is Chris Dawson and what crimes has he committed?

Dawson is a former high-school teacher who was found guilty in 2022 of murdering his wife Lynette Dawson in 1982.

New South Wales Supreme Court Justice Ian Harrison found that Dawson murdered his wife so that he could start a new life with a then 16-year-old student, who babysat for the family.

At age 74, Dawson was sentenced to at least 18 years in jail over the murder and it has been indicated that he will appeal the conviction.

Now, he is facing additional charges of unlawful sex with a 16-year-old. The case is currently before the court.

In terms of his former spouse, Lynette’s body has never been found and her disappearance was one of Australia’s longest-running cold cases.

Interest surrounding the crime was sparked back up after The Australian released their first podcast of the current series Teacher’s Pet in 2018.
