When a TV show shocks with a first season, the next question is always: “Is there going to be a second season?”
It was the case with 13 Reasons Why, with fans begging the show’s creators for more information on Clay’s life after the tapes. Fans of the show had their prayers answered.
And now fans of HBO’s Big Little Lies are apparently getting their own prayers answered. The original story followed the lives of five Southern Californian mothers from all walks of life, who end up murdering an abusive husband and rapist, and getting away with it by defending each other.
The book, written by Liane Moriarty, set in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and the TV show brushs over what could be some monumental storylines.
Moriarty and HBO programming president Casey Bloys have confirmed that the author has been approached about ideas for a second season.
“I have started to think about ways this could continue. The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn’t write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we’ll see what happens… I’m absolutely open to it because, once I started thinking, it was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there’s definitely places you can go,” the author told The Sydney Morning Herald.
There are so many questions fans could want answers for. What about Bonnie’s (Zoe Kravitz) past, as she was the one to lay the final blow to kill Perry (Alexander Skarsgard)? Will Jane (Shailene Woodley) ever tell Ziggy the truth about his father? Will the police ever be hot on the women’s trail?
It isn’t a secret that stars of the show would love a second season. Nicole Kidman, who plays Celeste, and Reese Witherspoon, who plays Madeline, have both been vocal about the potential of a new addition.
“I believe their stories warrant [a second season] and I don’t want to abandon them. We don’t want to sell them short, either. But I’m hoping we can find it if we take the leap,” said Kidman.
With shows like Big Little Lies, the story has to warrant a new season. It has to be true to the characters. We really hope Moriarty can come up with an incredible storyline because we really want to know what happens to these ladies!
