Golden Globe Awards 2023: Twitter can't get over Austin Butler's "confusing" Elvis accent

There’s no denying that Austin Butler was BRILLIANT in Elvis; however, fans can’t get over the fact that he’s still sporting the King of Rock and Roll’s southern drawl.

After winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, the 31-year-old accepted his award with a heart-warming speech.

While he gave particular shout-outs to “dance partner” Tom Hanks, his “visionary” Australian director Baz Luhrmann and Elvis’ family Lisa-Marie and Priscilla Presley, his accent left people scratching their heads.

“#AustinButler knows he’s not actually Elvis, right?” one user commented, while another said: “Austin Butler…why the voice? WHY??!?”

Another took the opportunity to add a GIF of The Little Mermaid losing her voice, meaning she couldn’t speak anymore.

“Me to Austin Butler after this awards season is over #GoldenGlobes,” they said.

Another person was just “confused” as “to why Austin butler was speaking like that.

“I guess that Elvis voice really just won’t go away, [sic]” they added.

Other Twitter fans were thrilled by Austin’s Win

While some were a little confused, since the actor was born in California, others were thrilled by his win.

“Congratulations to @austinbutler on his first #GoldenGlobes award! My boy, my boy… YOU DID IT!!,” one fan wrote.

“He was so good in Elvis that you forget he is not him,” another wrote.

And then there was this…

“Controversial take but Austin Butler should’ve think [sic] Vanessa Anne Hudgens because she is the one that encouraged him to go out for that role when he was skeptical about it and then he cheated on her during filming.” Awkies!

Congratulations to Austin Butler! So well deserved, in our opinion!
