The latest season of Married at First Sight (MAFS) 2025 is almost over, and we’re here for all the juicy drama the MAFS 2025 couples are bringing to the table.
One couple that’s kept us on our toes so far is Awhina Rutene and Adrian Araouzou. The pair had an undeniable chemistry but have had nothing short of a turbulent relationship so far, with the couple facing blow after blow.
Of course, that all came to a head at Final Vows when Awhina and Adrian *finally* decided they were done… before going back on their descision.
However, Awhina foreshadowed the split in a recent interview when she told Chattr that Adrian wasn’t on the show for the right reasons and hinted that the couple were over.
Here are all the other signs that Adrian and Awhina aren’t still together post-show.
Awhina calls Adrian a ‘devil’ at the MAFS reunion
Awhina and Adrian revealed they hadn’t seen each other since Final Vows, and the bride believes she finally feels more like herself. She seems to be completely over Adrian!
After Sierah Swepstone outed Awhina for talking smack about Adrian behind his back, all hell broke loose. According to Sierah, Awhina said Adrian was “stupid” and criticised his business.
“It’s as low as it gets,” Adrian said in a huff. “If I knew these things sooner, I would have been gone long ago. Those are low blows. The truth [was] unveiled, and for me, it was the nail in the coffin.”
Awhina said she did say some bad things about her ex, but justified herself by bringing up his repeated behaviours.
“Adrian, you’ve said things about me, you’ve done some things [to] me and I’m consistently forgiving you,” Awhina announced.
“I’m just forever going to be the bad guy, and you know what? I can be the bad guy in his story, because he’s the fucking devil in mine.”
What happened between Awhina and Adrian at Final Vows?
Adrian and Awhina both decided that they weren’t a good fit at Final Vows, with both deciding to leave single.
However, in a shocking twist, after vaguely dumping one another, the couple agreed to spend some more time together.
“Do you want to spend time with me tonight?” Awhina asked Adrian.
Adrian replied, “Yeah,” with a smirk, and the couple sealed their unclear decision with a kiss before they (probably) headed off for a little rendezvous.
The signs that Awhina and Adrian aren’t together
Adrian and Awhina’s Final Vows ceremony was one of the most confusing in MAFS history. However, while they couple agreed to spend some more time together, there’s plenty of signs suggesting that they’ve since broken up for good.
Adrian confirmed the pair are no longer speaking
In an interview with Chattr, Adrian said he isn’t on speaking terms with Awhina and can’t see a future for the pair.
“For me, it’s a bit confusing and it’s a bit upsetting, now she’s coming out and saying that I was the one, I was the reason she put on weight, I was the reason she stayed, I was this, I was that. We all watched the Final Vows, I didn’t force us to stay, it was her,” Adrian said.
“I’m like, you’re saying all these things and you wanted to leave from halfway, but I was there to believe that we had true feelings for each other. So like, did you lead me on to believe that there was something and you pressured me the whole time?
“I truly fell for her towards the end. Yes, up until halfway we had our rocky stages… but [now] I’m like, were you faking the whole way? Because I had real feelings for you.”
He isn’t happy that Awhina and her twin sister Cleo Rutene have been bad-mouthing Adrian in the press and said it’s caused “damage”.
“Cleo [has come] out and [is] saying all these things… doing the most to try and make my character look bad. Like it wasn’t enough the show [has] done that, but now you’re doing it and I just don’t agree with it.
“The fact that she’s coming out and speaking more and more and she just uses me for clout and views and clicks, I’m like to Awhina, stop your sister. My family stays out of your business, your family should stay out of my business. And I just don’t agree with that, and I feel like Awhina has sort of allowed that. So that’s why my relationship with Awhina on my side has ended.”
Awhina slammed Adrian’s behaviour on MAFS and hinted at a split
Awhina told Chattr in late March that she believed Adrian was only on the show for fame, and while she didn’t think they were compatible, he pushed for them to stay.
“Adrian 100 per cent wasn’t there for the right reasons,” Awhina said. “100 per cent [he] was there to get famous. I mean it’s very telling. You know, the experiment has ended and you know, I feel like those cast members that have gone rogue, they’re the ones that are going, ‘I want more limelight’.
“’I’m not getting the following I wanted from this experiment. I’m going to go out there and build my own platform again.’ So it’s very telling.”
She hinted that she wasn’t together with Adrian by the time the MAFS reunion was filmed, as she “didn’t want to see” some people, and said she was most looking forward to seeing her bestie Jamie Marinos. Does that mean she wasn’t keen to see Adrian? Hmm…
What did Clint say about Adrian and Awhina’s relationship?
Clint has confirmed that the couple’s romantic comeback after the Couples Retreat, which aired in early March, didn’t spell success for their relationship.
During an interview with Chattr, Clint all but confirmed that the controversial MAFS couple’s relationship didn’t make it post-show.
“Jacqui and Ryan hate each other and Adrian and Awhina, Sierah and Billy – they’ve all turned on each other,” he told us.
Jacqui and Ryan’s distaste for each other doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, considering that Sierah and Billy left the experiment and Jacqui and Ryan have made their feelings about one another clear post-show. So, that doesn’t exactly suggest that things are amicable between Adrian and Awhina, either.
What happened between Awhina and Adrian during Final Test Week?
Awhina and Adrian’s relationship clearly wasn’t super strong because they both chose to meet alternative matches during the Final Test Week’s ‘grass is greener’ challenge.
“Weirdly, Adrian and Ryan’s matches were both told to tell them that they were supposed to be the first choice brides on the show, but they couldn’t be there for filming because they were overseas,” an insider revealed.
“This raised suspicion as to whether or not these ‘matches’ were actually actors, or some of them were actors.”
However, another source confirmed that Adrian and Awhina (somehow) made it all the way to the Final Vows, where they said no, but they still spent the night together afterwards.
Adrian was spotted with a mystery woman during filming
Earlier this year, Yahoo! Lifestyle reported Adrian was seen holding hands with a mystery woman on Friday, January 31st, sparking the first whispers of Awhina and Adrian’s split.
“I was in the city on Friday night, see a bloke who looks super familiar — I’m like, wait a sec, that’s Adrian from MAFS, and he’s holding hands with a girl,” the source said.
“I then notice that it’s not the girl he got married to on the show and they were looking very cosy together.”
Adrian initially claimed the man in question was actually his twin brother, James, but he’s since admitted on the MAFSFunny podcast that it actually was him with a woman he casually dated called Geneva.
