Broome’s Amy Reeves has continued to blow the judges away on Australian Idol; however, unbeknownst to Marcia Hines, they shared a very special bond.
During the auditions, Amy secured a Golden Ticket for her performance of Aretha Franklin’s (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman where the 25-year-old revealed that she had fulfilled a childhood dream of performing for the iconic Idol alum.
It turns out that when Amy was a child, she met Marcia while attending a Hair reunion with her late father, who worked as a crew member on the musical.
According to the young musician, singing made her feel closer to her father, admitting she was “addicted” to it.
“He championed me,” she said. “Sadly, he passed away when I was 15. I know he’s always with me. I can feel his presence when I am singing.”
Amy Shark said the young singer’s audition was “incredible”, while Kyle Sandilands tipped the Western Australian’s future success in the competition.
“That is the best audition I’ve seen of that song. I will be shocked to the core if you are not in the Top Five.”
Now that she’s made it to the final rounds of the competition, the Skincare Boutique Worker said she was “excited about the prospect of connecting with fans, learning from mentors, and creating lasting memories that will shape my musical path for years to come.”
“I want to set an example for other kids who grew up in rural areas, especially the Kimberley,” she said. “I want them to look at me and see themselves. If I can have a positive influence like that, I would be happy and very proud.”
Australian Idol continues at 7.00pm on Sundays and Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
