The Summit Recap Episode 9: The Trekkers conquer King’s Leap on their final day

One Trekker was voted off at the last hurdle.

It’s episode nine of The Summit and only five Trekkers remain.

As they approach the summit, a brutal twist leaves them in despair. With one teammate slated for expulsion, Jans is worried about his unpopularity, sandwiched amidst pairings Brooke and Lulu and Isaac and Alex.

His plan? To coax Brooke into ousting Alex, hoping it’ll save him. However, Isaac and Alex refuse to go quietly, insisting they’re tight allies with Lulu and Brooke.

Elimination

Team Brooke and Lulu are caught in a battle between strategy and loyalty. They know they should logically get rid of Isaac or Alex for safety in numbers but know that they have been faithful from day one.

In the end, they vote off Alex, who is gutted by their betrayal. Isaac takes off, upset with the outcome, while Jans can’t keep his grin in check. His machinations got him through to The Summit checkpoint!

The Final Challenge — King’s Leap

On the last day of a gruelling hike, emotions ran high as the group tackled their first obstacle – King’s Leap. The task involved a deep chasm, a rope, and 15kg bags that each person had to drag across.

Isaac, who was on the chopping block after getting evicted the night before, put his debilitating fear of heights aside to be the first to cross. It looked gruelling, and the group couldn’t help but comment.

Falling halfway through, he had to start again, before, Lulu, a world champion boxer with strong arms, struggled too. After a couple of wavers, she made it to the other side and rejoiced at the sight of the pinnacle of the mountain.

Brooke was up next, and despite her concerns, she channelled her strength and determination to conquer that rope for her kids and a better life.

With sheer grit, she pulls herself across the obstacle, screaming in agony. However, amidst the echoes of her screams, Jans and Isaac hear the Mountain’s Keeper’s arrival.

Brooke was nearly at the end of the obstacle, but she was stricken with terror. Despite this, she rallies herself with some sideline encouragement and sheer perseverance and finally makes it across, exhausted but exhilarated.

Then, it was Jans’ turn to cross, weighed down by his stolen cash. He was concerned that the money would throw off his balance during the crossing.

Although a veteran ultra-marathon runner, the obstacle proved to be a struggle.

Finally, before his crossing, Isaac watched anxiously, having previously attempted the obstacle himself but failed. Even Jans, who was now on the other side, was worried about Isaac’s chances, and the group became uncertain whether to wait for him any longer.

The Mountain’s Keeper has one last twist

Isaac was in dire straits regarding his second cross, but when his Jans urged him to think of his mum, he found the strength he needed to push through.

Isaac’s grit and determination saw him attempt the rope once more, impressing his peers with his newfound vigour. But alas, the Mountain’s Keeper was determined to make it a bumpy ride for him.

Although Isaac struggled, his mum’s voice kept him going. He was not a quitter, and he would fight tooth and nail until the very end.

Isaac finally made it across, much to the delight of his companions, yet, the biggest challenge was yet to come when they stumbled upon a yellow duffel bag dropped by the helicopter in the sky.

With caution, they opened it to reveal a note that would change everything!

The Summit finale will air on Sunday June 4 at 7.30 pm on 9 and 9Now.
