Rounding out the end of the American summer, August once again brings a large variety of big movies for us. Despite that, not all of them are receiving great reception from overseas markets. So these are the best movies August have to offer us.

The Big Sick – 3 Aug

The Big Sick follows the comedic true story of comedy actor Kumail Nanjiani and his now wife, Emily V. Gordon. The film shows the struggle of their relationship as Kumail faces the hurdle of family traditions and the sudden illness of Emily.

The Big Sick has been receiving massive reviews during itss US release, scoring a 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars Kumail Nanjiani as himself, Zoe Kazan as Emily and, Holly Hunter and Ray Romano as Emily’s parents.

Wind River – 10 Aug

Wind River is a film about an FBI agent having to team up with a local animal tracker after he finds a dead body. The two must come together to bring down the person behind the murder.

Currently sitting at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, MCU stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen star as co-leads in this crime mystery. The film also stars Kelsey Asbille, Julia Jones, and Graham Greene.

Annabelle: Creation – 10 Aug

If horror is your type of film, then this is for you. Following on from the first Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation takes place several years later.

Set in the same universe as the highly rated Conjuring films, Annabelle: Creation appears to be upholding that same standard with it currently sitting at a 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Logan Lucky – 17 Aug

Another film holding a 100% critic rating ahead of its release is Logan Lucky. This comedy/crime film follows two brothers as they attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race.

Logan Lucky has an all star cast including Channing Tatum, Adam Drive, Daniel Craig, Katie Holmes, Katherine Waterston, Sebastian Stan and Seth MacFarlane.

The Dark Tower – 17 Aug

As one of the two films this month that do not have any critic reception, The Dark Town is an adaption of the Stephen King novel featuring The Gunslinger and Man in Black.

The film stars big names Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba in lead roles as well as Vikings Katheryn Winnick and Preachers Jackie Earle Haley.

Batman and Harley Quinn – 24 Aug

With DC Animated continually hitting it out of the park, Batman and Harley Quinn is the next film in the chain. For one day only, the animated movie hits the big screen.

Batman and Harley Quinn is the second movie with no critical score. The animated film stars Kevin Conroy reprising his role as the animated Batman, Loren Lester reprising his role as Dick Grayson and The Big Bang Theory‘s Melissa Rauch as Harley Quinn.

The Lost City of Z – 24 Aug

Currently sitting with an 87% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Lost City of Z is a film about the exploration for a mystery city based in the Amazon, set in the 1920’s. This action adventure is based off the true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett.

The film features a massive cast including Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Ian McDiarmid and Angus Macfadyen.
