The internet is an extremely powerful place – but this time it has used its powers for good.
A series of social media posts, almost two years apart, have scored Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o a movie.

The first post was on Tumblr, but the second post on Twitter attracted the attention of the internet community known as Black Twitter.
Then, Lupita tweeted she was game if Rihanna was, and when Rihanna confirmed her interest, it was game on.
It was then up to the social media community to find a director and writer for the film, and Ava DuVernay and Issa Rae answered the call.
Rumours began to fly that production on the film would start in 2018, and Entertainment Weekly wrote in an article;
“After a dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has nabbed a film project pairing Grammy winner Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, in a concept that began as a Twitter sensation. Ava DuVernay (Selma) will direct, and Issa Rae (Insecure) is writing the screenplay.”
Vanity Fair has confirmed that the movie will be in the works – only time will tell if it lives up to Twitter’s expectation.
