Yours and Owls are killing it right now in Wollongong, providing us with yet another festival to salivate over – ‘The 2016 Wollongong Fringe Festival’. Hosted by Yours and Owls and Destination Wollongong, the festival consists of nine full days of unexpected experimental and interactive discovery for locals and visitors alike.

For its inaugural year, the idea behind the festival is to celebrate Wollongong’s thriving cultural scene. Our hidden gems will be showcased alongside our best local talents, making it one electric week of arts and wonder.

Events will be in a variety of locations in and around Wollongong such as the Arts Precinct, RAD, The City Gallery as well as some secret locations to make things even more intriguing.

Yours and Owls and ‘The Wollongong Fringe Festival’ promoter Ben Tillman is super excited to see the festival being hosted in Wollongong.

“This is us confirming Wollongong as a creative hub, a travel destination and a city that can and will host an internationally renown[ed] fringe festival our way!” he said.

The Festival opening begins tonight with one hell of a party in the Wollongong Arts Precinct.

There will be Parkside DJs, a half pipe with skate demos from Kingpin, art exhibitions and some out-of-this world extra planetary virtual reality expeditions, just to name a few.

Tonight also marks the opening of the Fringe Festival’s Outdoor Cinema. Between 23 – 28 September fantastic movies will be on show, such as The Great Gatsby.  BYO Golden Gaytime.

Does it get any better? Well yeah.

The man, Dr Karl, will be doing what he does best – making science sexy as a part of the giant festival.

Destination Wollongong general manager, Mark Sleigh hopes that The Fringe Festival is here to stay.

“The fringe festival is an exciting venture that can evolve and expand over coming years on the national stage and become synonymous with the region,” he said.

With an edgy line-up of art, parties, music, science and so much more we’re sure the whole of Wollongong will be hoping that the festival becomes an annual event. Check out the amazing line-up below.
