Rick and Morty fans are no doubt happy with the news that their favourite animated show will be back for a third season much sooner than expected.

The news of the early return was confirmed by Co-creator of the show, Dan Harmon.

Harmon told Magic City Comic Con, held in Miami, Florida, that season three would arrive in 2016, after fans were left thinking it wouldn’t be released for another year and a half.

It was also revealed that the season will consist of 14 episodes instead of ten.

This news was welcomed by fans, who had previously been been operating under the statement Mr. Poopy Butthole revealed at the end of the previous season.

During the season two finale, the character mentioned that fans will see everyone’s favourite drunk scientist and grandson in a year and a half, with fans predicting its return for March 2017.

“I think Season three is—we’re targeting around the end of this year,” Harmon said, to cheers from the audience. “You guys do realize we’re at the beginning of this year?”

Harmon also confirmed that, unlike previous seasons, season three would be 14 episodes instead of just ten.

“Is there any press here?” Harmon asked. “Nobody blog about this. We’re doing 14 episodes this year.” Whoops.

While no details were shared about what to expect from the new season, writers have confirmed script title pages and announced the beginning of production, with Tucson Local Media reporting the voice actors have already begun work.

While the end of the year is a pretty long wait, it’s way better than 2017. And for how much we love Rick and Morty, we’ll definitely maintain this hype. Hint: we love Rick and Morty 100 years, Rick and Morty forever
