Farmer Wants a Wife insider reveals the Lady who was “more than happy” to play the villain

"That directive came from a producer"

Pretty much every reality TV show has a villain, and Farmer Wants a Wife 2024 was no exception, with an insider revealing which of the Ladies willing agreed to play the role.

“Potential reality TV stars apply and in their audition interviews, they will directly tell you ‘I want to be the villain'”, an insider, who works in reality TV production told Yahoo Lifestyle Australia. “They often declare they will do what you want to make good TV and are more than happy to be the bad guy.”

The source said that FWAW’s Karli Hinkley has no qualms about taking on the villain role.

“Karli on Farmer Wants a Wife was happy to follow instructions and do what the producers needed for good TV. Some get this unhealthy relationship like Stockholm Syndrome where they want to impress their captor,” they said.

“She (Karli) was more than happy to grab Farmer Bert’s hand in front of the other girls to upset them and that directive came from a producer.”

Why reality TV contestants are happy to play villains

The casting insider said that times have changed since reality TV began, and contestants hoped to get a good edit.

“Back when reality TV first started everyone wanted to be Reggie Bird – the fish ’n’ chip shop owner from Tassie,” they said. “Loveable and with a heart of gold.”

They added that villains generally get more screen time, which results in bigger profiles, which ultimately leads to a wider audience.

“It is no longer how you get noticed by the wider audiences,” they said. “They want to come on these shows and make a lot of noise. I think Abbie Chatfield was the game changer and she wasn’t even that villainous.”
