Shane Crawford reveals how the DWTS celebs helped each other behind the scenes

"Everyone's there to try and stay in as long as possible."

Dancing With The StarsShane Crawford has opened up about how the celebrity competitors would go out of their way to help each other with their performances.

The celebrities are paired up with professional dancers, and those who receive the lowest scores from the Dancing With The Stars judges risk being sent home.

Despite the competitive nature of the show, Shane told Chattr in a post-elimination interview that the celebrities backed each other.

“All the celebs were great. We were so supportive of each other,” he said.

“It felt like a real team environment, even though everyone’s there to try and stay in as long as possible, but everyone was so supportive in trying to help each other.”

The professional dancers helped celebrities who weren’t their partners

Shane added that it wasn’t just the celebrities who supported each other, and explained that even the professional dancers who they weren’t paired up with gave out tops.

Gustav [Samantha Jade‘s partner] was always trying to help me because he was such a passionate professional dancer.”

Shane pointed out his fellow celebrity competitor James Stewart as someone who gave him some helpful advice.

“And then you got James, who’s giving us all packing techniques backstage. Like, ‘What would you do here? Look back at the camera here. How would you go about that?’ So I loved it. It was a great environment to be part of, and I really enjoyed the show.”

Shane said the celebrities would hang out together outside of filming

Shane lives in Victoria and was put up in a hotel in Sydney while he filmed the series, and many of the other cast members were staying in the same hotel.

“A lot of us are staying at the same hotel as well, so we’re all crossing paths, even though we’re going off in different directions for rehearsals each day,” he explained.

“When we’re having a couple of days filming we’d all hang around together. So yeah, whether it be Ant Middleton or Adam [Doville] and James or Ben [Cousins] or Hayden [Quinn], it would be just like going to the pub and meeting up with your friends,” he said.

“We all got excited when we were able to come together. It was a very supportive environment, which is not always the case with some shows.”

“It very much felt very much like my days when I was a football player back at Hawthorn. Everyone had each other’s back and you’re all sort of working for the same thing, which was just to survive and get through your dance.”

Aww, we love to hear it!
