Did Meghan Trainor give a nod to Australian Idol with the name of her second baby?

The name's been popular in Australia for yonks.

Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor has announced the birth of her second baby and the name is pretty Aussie if you ask us.

The singer and TV personality took to Instagram to share the happy news and revealed that she and her husband Daryl Sabara have named the bub Barry Bruce.

“On July 1st (our 7-year anniversary of our first date) we welcomed Barry Bruce Trainor into the world,” the post began.

“He was a big boy at 8lbs 7oz…and sideways (transverse), but we had an amazing, successful c-section, and I finally got my skin-to-skin time! Thank you to all of the incredible doctors and nurses who took such great care of us.”

Trainor was a judge on this year’s season of Australian Idol and stayed in the country for a few months last summer while she was filming the show. In fact, she even announced her pregnancy while she was right here in Oz.

Although the name Barry is of Irish origin, it’s been hugely popular in Australia for a long while now (just ask Wiki), so, we can’t help but think that Trainor’s name choice is a subtle nod to her time in our beautiful nation!

On a side note, lil’ Barry has taken on Trainor’s last name, rather than Sabara’s, which is progressive and we’re totally here for it.

Who is Meghan Trainor’s partner?

The pop star is married to Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara. The couple began dating in 2016 and tied the knot in an intimate backyard ceremony in December 2018.

“It’s the beginning of an awesome, whole new life. I got way more than I ever wished for,” she told PEOPLE at the time.

When did they have their first child?

Sabara and Trainor welcomed their first child Riley, on February 8, 2021.

Months later, the Australian Idol judge revealed that her son was born via cesarean because he was in breach position, and that led to breathing issues which required a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. She told PEOPLE that the experience traumatised her.

“I couldn’t go to sleep at night. I would be in tears and tell Daryl, ‘I’m still on that table, dude. I’m trapped there. I can’t remind myself I’m in bed and I’m safe at home,’ ” she said. “I had to learn how traumatic it was.”
