Channel 9 is reportedly interested in Sonia Kruger as the host of their new series The Golden Bachelor Australia.

The series is an Australian take on the US version of the show and sees one mature bachelor date a pool of potential suitors who are generally aged 60 and up.

TV Blackbox reported that Channel 9 will be adding The Golden Bachelor to their roster in 2024 after The Bachelors was axed from Channel 10 earlier this year.

Osher Günsberg hosted The Bachelor Australia from its inception in 2013 until it switched to The Bachelors in 2023, which he also hosted.

Will Sonia Kruger host The Golden Bachelor

Sonia is currently signed to Network Seven, and in 2024 she was enlisted as the host of Dancing With The Stars and The Voice Australia.

In 2023, she hosted the aforementioned shows, along with Big Brother Australia and The Masked Singer, both of which have since been removed from Seven’s schedule.

According to Yahoo Lifestyle Australia, the axing of Big Brother has left a “hole” in Sonia’s contract, which could allow her to jump ship from Channel 7 to Channel 9 and host The Golden Bachelor.

“The Bachelor is going to look very different to how Network 10 has been making the show,” a TV insider told the publication, adding that Channel Nine wanted the show to look more “lux” and that executives are interested in the “class” the seasoned 59-year-old TV personality would bring to the series.

“The ambition is to appeal to a wider audience and make it a yearly feature on the network. There is no reason it won’t be as big as MAFS in a couple of years.”

“The Channel Seven star is yet to hear what the lineup for 2025 will look like if she stays with the network but with Big Brother cancelled there is a hole in her contract that will need to be fixed if she is to be picked up again,” they said.

But… what about Osher?!

The Golden Bachelor Australia will air on Channel 9.
