Abbie Chatfield on whether there will be an FGirl Island Australia

Abbie Chatfield spills on whether we can expect an FGirl Island Australia.

FBoy Island Australia is the gift that just keeps on giving in the reality television world. Following 12 self-proclaimed Nice Guys and 12 FBoys, the series sees three women try and weed out the goodies from the baddies, both to find love and possibly walk away with some cash.

But while the FBoy Island format is tried and tested, many fans have been wondering whether the show would flip the script and instead make an FGirl Island, where the women are the ones lying and scheming to make bank. The US has recently tested the FGirl format, rebranding the show to Lovers and Liars.

Host of FBoy Island Australia Abbie Chatfield has weighed in on whether an FGirl Island format would work in Australia in an interview with Chattr.

Will there be an FGirl Island Australia?

“I’d love it, but I’d want to see the American version first because I’m not sure how it would work,” Abbie tells Chattr. “I love it in theory, but I really, really want to see the full season and see what the vibes are.”

A large part of why the FBoy Island format works so well is because of its self-aware format, where jokes and jabs are embedded in the DNA. Abbie says this humour is a key element of the format, and wonders whether it would be lost if the jabs are towards women, not men.

“Obviously, it turns the whole thing on its head,” she says. “A huge reason why the show works is because it’s tackling the patriarchy. You’re punching up when you’re a female host, and there’s men there.”

“The thing is, the show is silly! People are like to me, ‘She’s bulling’. And I’m like, it’s a fucking joke!”

As for whether Abbie would host, she gives an unequivocal “Oh yeah!”.

“But I want to watch it first,” she continues. “I want to see how they did that.”

“It seems to still be supporting the women.”

How would the FGirl Island format work?

Well, the US edition of it, Lovers and Liars, is a pretty good indicator of what we might expect from an FGirl Island series.

In the gender-flipped version, we would see 12 Nice Girls and 12 FGirls duke it out for the hearts of three men (and their prize money).

However, despite what seems like absolute gold, the US edition of the show was cancelled with only one episode left to air, which doesn’t bode quite as well for an Australian edition!

FBoy Island Australia Season 2 streams on Mondays on BINGE. You can catch the finale from Monday, 30th of October.
