Get hyped – Stranger Things season two officially has a release date!

Netflix has released a captivating teaser trailer and accompanying poster to announce the return of our favourite 80s-themed supernatural thriller. Stranger Things became a hit almost overnight, and with its young stars causing a stir across the entertainment world, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of the second season.

The trailer sees us return to the small town of Hawkins. This time around it’s 1984 – an ominous throwback to George Orwell’s famous dystopian novel.  Add in famous 1984 movie releases like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Ghostbusters, and it’s clear that the show is in scarily good company.

Our young protagonists from season one can be seen riding towards what appears to be a monstrous red lightning storm.  Check out the trailer for yourself below:

The teaser doesn’t give much away besides the essential info, but it sets the scene for what’s sure to be an epic season.  Executive producer Shawn Levy hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that “the threats to Hawkins and to our characters are bigger, darker, often times scarier,” than the season before it, and we can’t wait!

Netflix also dropped a stunning poster image along with the teaser trailer, which gives us a better look at the huge storm coming in season two. With its tentacle-like appendages and glowing red centre, the inferno certainly appears to be out of this world.

The official Netflix description of the second series sums it all up:

“It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.”

The show is set to be released in Australia on October 27, just a few days short of Halloween.  Coincidence?  I think not, considering the group is all dressed up for trick-or-treating in the first trailer.

Besides, is there any better time to drop the next instalment of one of the strangest, yet most addictive shows out there?

Stranger Things season two releases all episodes on October 27.
