Winter has finally arrived – in the form of the first promo trailer for season seven.
While the almost year-long wait for the new season of Game of Thrones doesn’t come close to the depleting patience of those itching for the next A Song of Ice and Fire book (we feel you, readers, we do), the drop of the first full GoT promo trailer in the early hours of Friday morning has us shook.
The short teaser released earlier this month is nothing compared to the intensity and chilling atmosphere of this promo. With a haunting shot of flickering candles, the trailer named “Long Walk” jumps between Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister, who are all looking mighty fine and regal as they make the “long walk” to their respective thrones. Snow roams the halls of Winterfell as King of the North; Cersei strides through King’s Landing as Queen; and Dany, our fierce Mother of Dragons, glides gracefully to her jagged dragon-scaled throne in what looks like Dragonstone. Can I have Dany’s outfit, please? Because damn, she is slaying.
Fans have taken a rather solid guess as to where Dany actually is. Dragonstone seems appropriate as it is her birthplace, and also where Stannis Baratheon ruled from during his rebellion. However, it’s also suggested that she is seated on the throne of the Iron Islands, a reminder of the alliance forged last season.
The promo is a proper tease for what is in store for us. Not a single word is said, no plot points are revealed – all we get is an icy chill as the menace of the promo alludes to a confrontation with the White Walkers. And that swirl of cold breath escaping Cersei’s lips – there is no way she would team up with the White Walkers, would she? I guess when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.
As for what’s happening to our other favourites, all will be revealed soon – just hold on. For the night is dark and full of terrors.
