Although we are still on counting down the days for the highly anticipated second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, director James Gunn has just dropped some big news for the future of the franchise.

We are getting a Guardians of the Galaxy 3!

While details of the film are still up in the air, Gunn confirmed the third film during an interview with Complex. “There will be a Guardians 3, that’s for sure. We’re trying to figure it out.”

While the words “There will be a Guardians 3” is exciting enough to make Baby Groot perform his pot plant dance, what Gunn went on to say next could leave some fans of the franchise nervous.

“I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.”

Although he neither confirmed or denied his involvement in Guardians 3, the thought of losing the director who brought us this group of misfits would leave us with a hole in our heart.

For the meantime however, while we wait for more information to come out on the third installment, the second is just around the corner. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits cinemas on April 25th.
