Now that it’s February, the appeal of spending time in the sun and at the beach is starting to die away. For those of us who are still in holiday mode, however, there are some great upcoming movies to save the day.

Patriots Day – 2 February

Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg team up for the third time to bring us Patriots Day. Based on the true events of the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings and everything that followed, Patriots Day has received great reviews during its 2016 American release. Currently sitting at a Critics Rotten Tomatoes score of 78%, this film is a story about the courage and unity shown by the people of Boston during a time of need.

Manchester By The Sea – 2 February

A likely contender for the Oscars, Manchester By The Sea is a touching story that follows an uncle who is given guardianship over his nephew after his brother passes away. It’s the film Casey Affleck won Best Actor in a Drama at the Golden Globes. Manchester By The Sea has been widely praised and has a  Critics Rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hidden Figures – 16 February

Another true story coming out in February.  Hidden Figures is about the team of African-American women who played a critical role in NASA’s first successful space mission. Staring Empire‘s Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, musician Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner as well as supporting roles from Kirsten Dunst, Big Bang‘s Jim Parsons and Luke Cage‘s Mahershala Ali, this film encapsulates the real-world discrimination these women faced during the 1960s. It’s received praise both critically and at the box office during its American release. Hidden Figures currently scores a 92% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
